How am I wrong about russel? He’s untradeable till at least his 3rd year of his deal. He can’t carry the 2nd pairing, He’s basically turned into our 4th best defender even with sekera out. When he’s on the ice there’s almost no movement of the puck in a positive direction and gets possession rinsed on a nightly basis and hemmed in. It’s always panic time when he’s out there. And literally not an ounce of offensive acumen. And that’s pretty much been his entire career.
Best case for the team is paying him those dollars to play on the 3rd pair. 4mil for a 3rd pair guy long term is awful
I don’t care about east/west. There’s good teams in the west too. U bleed too many points and you’re not gonna be able to catch up. U can look it up, but The flames started last year with a similar record and I’m pretty sure they had to win at a clip of one of the top few teams in the league the rest of the way just to grab a wildcard spot.
It’s not impossible or over. But with so much parity it ain’t that far statistically speaking - HB77
First bold: We've been over this tho, he's going to be serviceable until the third year of his contract. After that, he gives them a list of teams that we have to hope has some Sunbelt teams that need to reach the cap ceiling. 4 mill for the third, 2.5 mill for the second, you don't think Arizona or Florida wouldn't want that. The Mod-NTC is a "reward" for taking a salary hit in that final season. As for the "fourth best defender thing", is it really that bad out? Klefbom, Larsson and who? Nurse? Finally, Nurse is showing improvement and maybe he can play with Sekera, leaving Russell to play with Benning. I thought they did well together.
Second Bold: Now usually I hate this stat, but I think it helps for line carriers and defenseman, his plus minus is +1. In fact, he's only had a +/- in 3 games. So when he's on the ice, there have been 11 goals against, goals for he's been on for 7 (2PPG). But 7 powerplay goals against which honestly is horrible and he shouldn't be on the penalty kill, which is awful and McLellan had his hand forced by whatever the (frank) happened to Sekera. Even strength he's been on for only 4 goals and is CF is actually pretty damn decent, 53.4%. I don't think being hemmed into your own zone is good. It's bad actually, but I guess you can sorta classify him as a "shutdown defender" which I don't think has a place in the NHL anymore, that's a whole other topic though.
And just gonna add a little part, I think you use Corsi when it benefits you, but ignore stats when it doesn't, but I think every hockey fan does. Here's what I mean. During the Washington game I said "weak talbot" after the fourth goal (I meant the fourth goal was horrible), you responded with "This game ain’t Talbots fault. At All. The oilers are pretty mediocre. Talbot is one of the few bright spots". Now I think he had a decent game and other than the fourth goal, I don't think he did bad at all, but stat wise, he had an .867 save percentage which is just horrible. But the eye test suggested that he didn't do so bad. Eye test wise I think Russell is a decent player who isn't totally brain dead but needs to work on a few things to be a credible second pairing guy. I'm not trying to insult ya by this, just how I see things.
Third Bold: I agree. I don't think he's necessarily a third pairing defender at the moment. I think he has the ability to be able to play second pairing minutes with the help of a decent defender who has a balanced game (Sekera), but I do agree a four million cap hit is a little too much for the quality of the player he is. I think the two years is like "hey, you can still play and you aren't terrible and there aren't any better options, so here, quit your female doging and he's your money" after that the contract gets complicated and I'm sure that was Edmonton's doing just in case he turns to poop at the age of 33.
Fourth Bold: They were 33-11-6 against the west last season and out of every team in the playoffs, they only had a losing series to Minnesota and Nashville (whom I think would've won had Edmonton beaten Anaheim). Against the East on the other hand, they were 14-15-6. Obviously, I'd rather this than being winless against the east, but it's still pretty early on. But I agree they need to get their poop together. And I'm not trying to excuse this, but look at their road games: Chicago to Philadelphia to Pittsburgh to back home. they play 5 or 6 games at home, then back to the eastern seaboard to Brooklyn-Newark-Manhattan-Washington. Then home again. So that's quite a bit of travelling.
I'd also like to point out a mistake I made. They play 50 games against the west, I forgot Detroit and Columbus moved to the east while Winnipeg moved to the west (I kid, but still). And they're 3-2-0 against the West, forgot about Winnipeg. Also in their first 17, they play 5 west teams and 12 east teams.
Fifth Bold: So let's say they do make a wildcard, which means they'd have to do very well against the west. Who says they couldn't take the team out and go on a run? Nashville did it, granted they are/were a much better team. But with Sekera back, who says they can't win the Stanley Cup, even with a bad start. Who knows?
They're dominating teams man. They've been out-shot twice (Winnipeg and in Pittsburgh) and tied in shots against Philly. They take a ton of shots, the second most in the league while allowing the seventh least. It's their shooting percentage that is horrible. 5.8%. Dunno how to fix that, but yes they need to get their poop together.
Anyway I'm sorry that I was sorta a female genitalia yesterday. Pretty salty that they didn't have the game on TV and they lost and so did the Raptors. Didn't mean it. You're cool. |

Nuge rocks this year. So glad we traded Hall and Ebs before him. On pace for 37 goals, and 52 points right now with a 55.8% faceoff percentage. Still early but he's worked on what he needs to and is really performing well. Hopefully the rest of these chumps start pulling their weight. - Ihatebrianburke

😂 it’s no worries man. U can disagree and call me out. That’s the point of the forum I think
We’re clearly on opposite sides of what’s happening with the oil, that’s cool
But you’re still wrong 😉 |

I feel like you're saying "trolled" because of how wrong you are and the fact you come off as an idiot. - FransNielson
Nah, it's not in my nature to argue without any facts or stats to back it up. Even Bone knows this. Just bored. Still surprised Bone out of anyone would have fallen for it. Plus, I thought the follow-up post of the Chia video made it kind of obvious that it was troll bait.......
Honestly though, with all sincerity (to you, Bone, and anyone else), NJ wanted a guy they can invest in coming back to NJ. A top end, elite talent. Hall was the only answer Shero was willing to accept. I just wished we could have gotten a 1st back as well. Oh well. |

Oh dude, I still think we're (frank)ed. I'm already on to football (the one you play with your feet). Actually watching the Whitecaps game
I even messaged into 630 ched that this season was gonna be poop, even before the playoffs started. |

I think most of our issues this year is that there are too many passengers... Maroon,Lucic and the rest of secondary players have flat out sucked!!!! Maroon in particular has been gifted a chance of a lifetime, on a contract year he is mediocre at best.....Maybe some more shake ups are in order - oilpatch
Maroon a problem? WTF are you smoking? He’s damn near a PPG and is riding a 5 game point streak. He’s literally the ONLY winger (other than Draisaitl) who is producing. |

I mean, the Champions League matchups are ongoing right now, and there are quite a few exciting matches to watch. But, to each his own I guess. |

But does that make LD worth the 8m? LD was supposed to be able to carry his own line, etc, etc. If his regular spot from now on is on McDavid's line, that 8m is slowly looking like an overpayment.
He is one hell of a player, but at 8m? |

Was Eichel worth 10?
If Draisaitl continues to put up 70ish points, wins face offs, and remains a wiener to play against, then yes he is worth 8 by today’s NHL standards. |

We already know he's overpaid. Been over this again and again. He got an extra million per year because of the McDavid contract. |

I hope this is the case. I was hoping for a front-loaded 7m/7-8 year contract honestly.

Makes you think what Maroon's contract will be like if this is the case. Anything over 3-4m/3 years is crazy imo.
