Why? I mean really, why?
You're actually not bad to talk to about 95% of the time, but why? - jmatchett383
a 10 game win streak and they missed the playoffs
so a 10 game losing streak should be just what the doctor ordered |

I think they're trying to shake off the dead weight of the casual fans and really see who the true die hard flyers fans are. |

to be fair with his results as head coach being mediocre at best I thinks any decision he makes will come under scrutiny... Weird, the other night I thought Lehtera had some jump. I think Weal has offered nothing of late, so personally I thought that one worked out. I don't think he adjusts very well to issues that arise during games ie: line juggling, playing non scorers late in games when production is needed, his 2nd PP unit personnel, the passive PK and his overall reaction to Refereeing decisions. Quite frankly he looks lost back there some nights and that projects on the on ice production. Now I realize some of these issue don't fall directly on him but as head coach he is the one responsible. - landros 2
For sure when your team is struggling and they've lost 9 games in a row a coach is and should come under scrutiny. Hakstol makes plenty of adjustments in games that aren't effective. Any coaching move has to be executed by the players on the ice. Right now he has what 3 players that aren't non scorers. A coach has to have something to work with. I can single out some decisions that I don't agree with such as having Voracek out late in games with a lead but overall I think a majority of the criticisms are overblown and unfounded. The PK is a major issue going back to last season and that is definitely on the coaches at this point. Your last point is the reality.

I've said I don't like hasktol and think he should be fired but really doesn't matter to me if that's not until the off season.
I love lappy as a person I just think his role isn't right for him. Maybe he would take a phantoms role or go back to strength and conditioning. He's really good with the young guys.
We have a fairly easy stretch of games coming up. I think we could get 4 5 wins in December at the very least. |

There are two teams in the entire league with fewer wins than us. Buffalo and Arizona. No wins should be assumed with this team. |

It will be interesting to see if Hakstol is still the guy if the losing streak gets to 13 games. |

I think I wish I'd waited a month to buy those tickets for the Toronto game on the 12th, I probably could've gotten them a fair bit cheaper.

The emotional part for the GM was in context of making emotional decisions based on what is happening right now such as firing the coach or making an reactionary trade.
I think there was some truth to what Hextall said. If you listen to the podcast that Bill linked to in his blog, he said a lot of the same things.
Hextall has simply chosen to be supportive and circle the wagons. He knows he has some young players and he wants to be as supportive as he can. I don't think there is any value to him in calling out the team hard in this situation. If they were a team built to win now, I think his tone and overall reaction would be different but that is speculation. Hextall is very even keeled and focused in direction.
I look at as if say you were going through a rough time in your personal life. It really helps to think that it's temporary and things will get better.
A year or two from now there will be significant changes. My viewpoint as a fan is that this is temporary and my focus is on the future. This losing streak doesn't change that for me. I look at the young players on the team and the prospects that they have and see that there is a chance for something special in the future. The current level of play of the team will not make me lose sight of that.
Fans are frustrated and upset which is understandable but there is a lot of nonsense being spewed. Sorry if that offends anyone. - MJL

"The Flyers 2nd power play unit, after looking improved the first week or so of the season, is in utter disarray"
Do you have any thoughts on why they won't use Sanheim on PP2, Bill? It literally couldn't get any worse, so why not give the kid a chance, especially now he's gotten his first 20 NHL games under his belt and looks pretty comfortable at 5 on 5. |
