Subban is no longer a topic of conversation in this thread, so good trade.

Apparently his eye test defense is weak, will be interesting to watch him play.

And 6 goals, 22 points in 70 games on the 4th line isnt bad either.

Dowd is one of the most offensively creative players I have seen in a while. He earned a spot on the Kings power play unit last season, and was the author of many "wow, great pass" remarks from me. He is definitely more of a playmaker than a goal scorer, and he lacks that "finishing" skill, but put him on a line with players that can score, and he'll set them up all night long. He was touted as a defensively responsible player at lower levels, but that apparently didn't translate to the NHL.

I'm convinced that he slept with John Stevens' wife or something. After his promising season last year where he got elevated as high as 3rd line center and was a regular fixture on the 2nd power play unit, there's just no explanation of why he was so dramatically underused this season. When Carter went out with an injury, I expected Dowd to immediately step in as 3C, but instead he remained a health scratch and only ever saw limited minutes on the 4th line, with little to no power play time.

Unless something happened in the offseason that caused him to take a substantial step backwards, Vancouver easily won this trade. Dowd is a solid bottom-six player that can step in when needed as a good power play quarterback. I hope he does well for you guys, except when he plays against the Kings, of course.

Were you high on Linden Vey too?

Because your Dowd scouting report makes this trade sound like a steal

Nah, Linden Vey was one of those players that was exceptional in the AHL, but his skill never really translated to the NHL. Same with Jordan Weal. Dude had potential, but he was just too small to excel on the Kings.

My evaluation of Dowd was based on his play for the Kings. I think he could have been a solid 3C for the Kings, but like I said, he slept with the coach's wife or something.

Speculation is that the Kings are looking to move one of our 2nd pairing defensemen to bring in a 2C while Carter is gone. Gaborik-Kempe-Lewis have been an exceptional and speedy 3rd line for us, but Shore centering the 2nd line just isn't getting it done.

If the Kings trade Muzzin and call up LaDue, that leaves a pretty big hole on defense in Ontario. As a former AHL all-star, Subban could fill in the gap created by LaDue's absence.

Makes sense. Plus Carter's injury could be one that seems him lose half a step this year, and not fully recover until he's had a off-season and a full year away from the injury.

I haven't researched it, but it sounds similar to the injury Kevin Bieksa had here and he struggled when he came back and didn't rebound until the year after.

Could be way off though lol

Good ones. I forgot to mention that he loves to throw the body around. These don't really show his playmaking ability. Due to the Kings inability to score last season, his quality set-up plays didn't always turn into goals, but they were sure fun to watch.

Defensively his numbers are good though?
- Codes1087

You're right last season he had a good CF% but had a lot of ozone starts and had a very bad +/- (I know the stat doesn't mean all that much, but he still was out there for a lot of goals). This season, CF, SF, GF all under 50% on a team that has a positive record, and with somewhat sheltered zone starts. I believe in the kid, but I think that's what made Stevens use him sparingly, because it couldn't have been his passing. Even in his 8 minutes a night this year he'd routinely leave me in awe over a pass. 2nd best passer on Kings behind Kopitar probably.

Don't let that mislead you, they had to pick someone from a completely talent-less Comet's team.
However, if you want some fun visit this thread when the Kings call him up (not that is likely to happen as Subban sucks). There will be some unfiltered hysteria.

Eh I think that Stevens had decided Dowd would be the one to be waived when Clifford returns and we simply tried to shop him before losing him for free, the return was not really important. VAN bit because they had a newly open hole at center. I don't really think we're going to move for a 2c.
