It's killing me being stuck at work without being able to watch the WJC outdoor game. |

It's killing me watching it. It's awful. Not missing anything. Bad ice leading to bad hockey, puck won't slide, snow galore, terrible camera angle, blah. |

Simmonds has 1.5 years of his contract left. GMs covet him, but you wait until the offseason and his value only goes down. Teams aren't trading high end established NHLers for a 30 year old with 1 year left on his deal. 2 guaranteed playoff runs make a difference. But of course the Flyers aren't out of it yet! We won't officially know if they'll miss until April.
Your best bet is either an underrated almost NHL ready player and/or a top half first, depending on if we add a little sometin' sometin'. 1 year ago I bet we could've gotten Boeser+ for Simmonds. Not now. Not even close. That's what happens when players are in the NHL. People can ask for the moon, but reality does get in the way. Either like that......or don't and re-sign him to a questionable 6 year deal. - Mononoke
Any team trading for Simmonds in the off season would be doing so knowing what Simmonds market value would be to re-sign. There is some risk there but as long as they make him a fair offer, they shouldn't have much of a problem extending him.

Well, most contending teams trading for him probably can't just willy nilly sign him to a 6 year x $6 mil deal. They're probably up against the cap. I agree that any team trading for him likely believes they can or want to keep him, but there aren't a ton of teams who hit all the checkmarks either. It's just a fact that trading for someone for 2 guaranteed playoff runs (and we could make his AAV under $2 mil for 2 years) is better than 1 year. |

I don't think Winnipeg would be interested in trading a 21 year old established NHL winger for a 30 year old one tbh. Of course that would be a trade I'd be all over.
That's what I'm talking about though. Last year you could do that trade MAYBE. Now that he's established his value goes way up. If you want to find a young gem for a flawed, 29 year old turning 30, 55-60 point PWF you have to do more leg work than ask for already quality, young, high end potential NHL players because teams won't trade them. Trading for a mid 1st to draft Barzal is easier than trading for Barzal. Picks+prospects probably are the only real route, and of course that team would have to both be presently bad enough to have a good pick/prospects........and be good enough where they think Simmonds can help them win in the next 2 years. - Mononoke
I think NHL GM's are smart enough to know that Simmonds isn't that flawed. Put him on a quality team with good linemates that he can form chemistry with and watch Simmonds magically transform into a strong player at 5 on 5. |

Or a team whose close like la was gives you a high end prospect like schenn was who is close to nhl ready. I think that's our best case scenario. I have increasingly soured on simmer resigning. It would be another step back. But maybe 3 first round picks in a very deep draft plus a close prospect would make us competitive again quickly. |

The cap is rumored to be going up again so I don't see a team willing to meet what should be the Flyers asking price if they aren't looking to extend him. The Flyers are approaching the point quickly where they need to start acquiring more than just future draft picks.

By the time they have to resign simmer the cap could be up 10+ million. A contending team would absolutely take that chance. But I agree with you continually hitting reset with more picks won't work. Although this would be the year to package them and get up into the top of the draft and get a guy who will come straight to the Nhl |

I'd prefer it be an NHL ready player too and not just a draft pick as the headline piece (add in okay). But which NHL ready under the radar players with star potential are you exactly looking for? Teams often have a death grip on them, and it's not as easy as wishing it into being. Look at Boeser's value last year to this year. You have any names? |

I haven't given it much thought to have specific targets in mind. I just know what value I would need in return to trade Simmonds.

I think it sucks that such an important game has to be played in these conditions.

I'd personally prefer to see us acquire a prospect further along than get a pick that we have to wait six months or 18 months just to pick.
The trade ive had in mind is centered around Simmonds for Owen Tippet or a similar type forward prospect. |

Idk how under the radar they are but Sam steel in Anaheim, Jordan kyrou blues, and jack roslovic jets. Those are some names based on where the team is in standings and other prospects picks they have in their system. |

Between the ice conditions, visibility issues and extreme cold temperatures; it'll be a minor miracle if no one is injured in this game. It's really a disgrace. |

Well, now you're entering MY brain.
I love Kyrou. I think he fits all the criteria. Thing is we already blew it trading Schenn to St. Louis. I would've much rather traded Kyrou+Frost for Schenn than the late 2018 in a draft I think is overrated. I've said that since the summer.
Steel is the other guy I circle. Anaheim is a gritty western conference team that has had bad injury luck but was a contender just last year. Sam Steel+1st for Simmonds+ makes a world of sense to me in my mind. I think he has that combo of being underrated and having elite skill and being not too far from NHL ready.
I don't watch enough Roslovic to have an opinion tbh, though I know how he's doing. So maybe, maybe not. I'm not sure Winnipeg is the best fit for Simmonds, but who knows. But all these guys are what I'm talking about as headliners, maybe with an add. You're not just trading Simmonds for Clayton Keller or Mitch Marner. You have to find a gem. |

See, this is what I mean and what I'm afraid of. Guys are going to go in and warm up between periods and then come right back out into this freezing mess and start skating at top speed. It's just a torn muscle waiting to happen. |
