Gene Hart was so lucky to grow up listening to the voice of Flyers hockey.
its amazing the Flyers are where they are considering the 0-5-5 run.
Bill, any chance you can do a blog on the top 10 prospects (your top 10) and their projections? |

Sure thing... I usually do a farm system analysis after the season. I'm not a huge fan of ranking prospects since there are factors such as how to weight age and current level of play vs. development ceiling, trying to compare different positions and roles. etc. that make it tough to come up with something I'm happy with. But I will try to do a semblance rankings at the end of the season. |

I am hoping any nagging injuries may get a chance to heal up. (Simmonds, Sandheim, Hagg, etc)
I am not saying they have them, I just have a feeling they do.
They have a realistic chance to make the playoffs, if that doesn't serve as motivation, nothing will.

ups and downs of a season, it happens to all teams.
Bill, do you believe the Flyers will get better play out of their younger players in the second half of the season?
Patrick with what he learned and hoping improving from surgery and just gelling with the vets?
1st game is huge, confidence is a scary thing, beat the Devils and could bode well
great call out on Gene Hart, was amazing.
top 3 for me
Hart
Emmerick
Thorne |

With both teams coming off bye weeks, the NJ game could be a sloppy one. Lets just hope the Flyers can win it in regulation.
Picking some midseason Flyer trophy winners sounds like fun, here's mine:
Hart: Couturier
Ross: Giroux
Richard: Couturier
Norris: Provorov
Selke: Couturier
Calder: Hagg
Vezina: Elliott
Byng: Provorov, to only have 12 PMs with his icetime and matchups is impressive
Masterton: Giroux

Best ever. Pronounced every name like a native speaker, explained the game without ever talking down to his audience, actually called the play by play during the action instead of finishing up some asinine story like many current announcers, wasn't afraid to criticize the Flyers when they weren't playing well and you could hear the love he had for both the Flyers and the game of hockey in his voice.
When it comes down to the greatest all time Philly announcers it's Gene Hart and the Phillies tandem of Harry Kalas/Richie Ashburn and then everyone else. Those guys set the standard.

Simmonds should really benefit from this break. I also think it will be good for guys like Couturier, Giroux and even Provorov (though he is a fitness machine), just because of the high amount of hard minutes those guys play.

Emerick is good but he tries too hard to take it to the next level. It got old with me and now I merely tolerate him.
Thorne mispronounced too many names for my liking. |

I was hoping someone could comment on why certain players get called up from the AHL and others don't. Philip Varone is #3 in AHL scoring this year but I never hear anyone talk about him. Are some players just considered AHL regulars and won't get called up? Please forgive my ignorance I don't get to see the Phantoms play and I know next to nothing about the minor leagues. |
