Vegas has the best home record in the league at 19-3-2. I'm wondering if this record may be slightly inflated by away teams taking in the.. umm.. untowards vices of Sin City for the first time.



I'm still predicting this team gets bounced in 4 straight in round 1.

I think there are a bunch of reasons:
1. Gallant is a very good coach. The Florida Panthers made a huge mistake in firing him (and the way they did it was terrible) and Las Vegas was very smart in hiring him.

2. Fleury is a great goalie and still one of the best in the league. Although he played most of his career on some very good Pens teams, those teams often played bad team defense and frequently gave up many high quality chances against. I lost track of how many times he was hung out to dry, especially in the 2012 and 13 playoffs. I can't even imagine how good Fleury's career numbers would be if he played behind a better defense, like the late 90's/early 2000's NJ Devils.

3. The team is well-balanced. Although the team lacks any true "star" players it also doesn't have any really terrible ones. The lines all seem to have lots of chemistry. Also, most of the LV players were obtained from the expansion draft and are motivated to prove themselves to the teams who exposed them.

4. Distractions. Las Vegas has only lost three home games so far this season. I suspect that visiting teams are distracted by the nightlife and other diversions there and do not focus as much as they should on hockey. Supposedly the Pens were partying it up the night before their game and they looked terrible in their game there earlier in the season. When CBJ played there recently Dubinsky basically got kicked off the team indefinitely for a "personal issue" (I suspect drugs). As for the LV team itself, I am guessing that the novelty of playing there has worn off and they can focus more on hockey.

The Knights also have the eighth-best road points % in the league.

I've watched a few Vegas Knights games this year and man they are a fun team to watch. It's a great example of how the NHL is changing. The team has fully embraced the high speed quick puck movement game the league is moving towards....

Which is why it's so damn frustrating to see the Oilers building a slow team around the leagues fastest player.
