Lower than Provorov's.
Therefore, without any context whatsoever, your question yields an answer that indicates that MacDonald is a better defender than Provorov. - jmatchett383
Yes, all you have to do is look at the unsustainably high on ice SV% that Hagg and MacDonald have, as well as their sky high CA/60 and SA/60, to see why keeping them together is a bad idea.

I'd love to see the info that tells them that playing a sloth-like cap dump on the PK is a good idea. Perhaps they could release it in the form of a memo. |

Goulbourne -> LHV - YuenglingJagr
It's where he belongs, he's not an effective NHL player. The one area where at I times disagree with Hextall is that a player is better off playing a larger role at the AHL level than a smaller role at the NHL level when it comes to development. I don't think that this is always true. Sure if you are a team that only uses their 4th line for 6-7 minutes per game then yeah, the kid is better off playing 15+ minutes a game in the minors. But if you are going to really roll 4 lines most of the time and give all of your forwards at least 10 minutes of ice time most nights than the player can break in and continue to develop at the NHL level.
Here's where I'm going with this. You don't have to bring up Lindblom and put him the top 9. I think we can all agree that Lehtera is a generally ineffective player and he is especially bad on special teams. Why not bring Lindblom up and put him on a line with Filppula and Leier? You would also use him on the 2nd pp unit and he could spot in on other lines if his play warrants it. Playing 8-10 mins at ES plus 1-2 on the pp most nights is fine by me and shouldn't restrict his development at all.
You owe it to your current core players as well as your ticket purchasing fans to put the best team possible on the ice. Right now, it is not being done. |

I actually am not completely opposed to them staying together, because I think them playing a similar defensively style sometimes works better than two guys trying to do two separate things (Ghost AMac). Though I prefer a more aggressive style of defense and puck possession, I do think they are better at keeping shots to lower danger, resulting in a higher CA and sv%
That said...I do think they both have an inflated save percentage vs what they will end up at |

Re the PK:
All you have to do is to look back in the history of the Flyers to each era in which they had a good PK. There was always one thing in common, they were aggressive and pressured the hell out of the puck. The current PK style is much too passive and guys like Filppula and Lehtera aren't guys that are going to play an aggressive style. They have the horses up front to have a better, more aggressive PK, they just need to start using them.
My forward pairings on the PK would be:
Couturier-Konecny
Giroux-Laughton
Couturier-Simmonds
Laughton-Leier
3 out of the four pairs feature a good faceoff man, and if needed for a key faceoff on the 4th pair, you can sub Filppula for Laughton to take the draw. While Couturier and Laughton would be playing heavy minutes, they are probably the 2 guys best suited for it and they would always have a fresh partner. When one of these guys is in the box, I'd sub in Raffl when needed.
Jori Lehtera should never be killing penalties for this team.

Finally re the powerplay, mainly the second unit:
First off, with Goulbourne being sent down, it's time to bring up Lindblom and get him in the lineup. You then use the following for the pp:
1st unit/2nd unit
Simmonds/Lindblom
Couturier/Patrick
Voracek/Konecny
Giroux/Weal
Ghost/Provorov
Again, guys like Lehtera and Leier should never be on the pp.

For sure, I was just working with what is on the current roster plus (hopefully very soon) Lindblom. Without Lindblom, I'd try Laughton in that spot before a stiff like Lehtera or a fading Filppula.

Weber will help on the power play and penalty kill
Will he wear # 6 ?
Might have to include AMac in trade to make money work..... |
