Given no credit? I said no such thing. There is without a doubt coaching that goes on behind the scenes.
Using your examples, what were the reasons they were removed from those roles? Konecny showed "poor puck management" Did time on the 4th line teach him to be better? He learned how to pass while being scratched? Or did a smart, young hockey player learn BY PLAYING what he can or can't do at the NHL level?
A coach has to try to win hockey games, so I completely understand younger players getting scratched at times or moved around the lineup. However, I like to see a reason behind it, and when guys like Manning and Lehtera are being used in place of younger players because they aren't "trusted" that is a problem. This coach takes that reason to extremes and there is a large amount of evidence that decisions are based on individual results rather than a process. Ghost only deserves a scratching when the pucks arent going in. Manning deserves to play because of an absurd on ice sv%
I won't just blindly support the decisions he makes just because he makes them. I want all of it to make sense. I don't think that is too much to ask for. - YuenglingJagr
A young player learns that his ice time is dependent on how well he plays in the important areas of the game such as puck management and play away from the puck and not just how many goals he scored nor is he entitled to ice time simply because he was a high draft pick. That is exactly the process that you claim doesn't exist. It's the opposite of what you claim.
If you think Gostisbehere was scratched because pucks weren't going in the net then you really don't understand what is going on. How the Flyers handle young players certainly makes sense even if someone doesn't agree with it or would prefer they do something differently.

If only someone could tell me more about how much Lehtera sucks...my day would be complete. - Baxter27
You guys do realize that a lot of bottom 6 players that were previously top 6 players are more or less adapting to new roles and evolving their game thusly to fit into the team plan. We're talking about a 3rd round pick. A big body player who has experience in the KHL scoring at just under a point/game. Has decent international experience including a bronze and silver medals (Olympics and WC). A player that has versatility and can get plugged into the lineup as needed. Not sure why he's become the VandeVelde of this year but his minutes and role are very reduced compared to his role in St. Louis a couple seasons ago. Sure the NHL has transitioned into speed and youth but I don't place blame on him for the Flyers recent swoon. Also unclear about the hatred for Raffl — especially after last nights loss. Raffl was one of the few forwards that stood out from the 2nd period on.

Raffl should be a guy that’s killing penalties for you. It’s annoying that he can’t do it because his shot blocking form causes injury. He’s long, can skate, and is best along the boards. And he sits on the bench watching our pk get scorched.

Raffl had a fabulous sequence on the PK last night in the 3rd.
Gouldbourne to the AHL, thank Christ. - ClaudeFather
Season saved!!
Its amazing to me that with a PK that is utter Hell, goaltending that has cost them arguably 2 of the last 3 losses and the amazing recent play of Manning that people are wasting cycles on Ghoul

That's the problem with having Provorov and Gostisbhere paired together. It leaves the MacDonald-Hagg pairing to take a lot of heavy lifting where all they do is defend. Ideally in the future more of the young defenseman develop and the Flyers can spread out their dynamic defenseman more through the lineup. - MJL
If they're going to use Hagg a lot against top lines as they have then MacDonald is the better choice to pair with Hagg in that situation. The Flyers right now need to use MacDonald in a bigger role then they would be able to if he was paired with Sanheim. There is no perfect lineup for this team where there wouldn't be issues. It's not about the coaching decisions, it's about the available talent. - MJL
I rarely back-read, but this was too great to pass up.
Hagg and MacDonald are fantastic top 4 defensemen.......only they can't do anything without Provorov or Ghost carrying their jocks. You're not a good defenseman if you need your jock carried. They're getting cratered together in almost league bottom fashion. "All they do is defend." Your words. Weird how Ghost is seeing top pair minutes and doing just fine, lightyears beyond what those other two ever did. And he is lifting up Provorov in the process (and Provorov him). You outline why they stink while saying they're good. If ever we isolated the negative versus positive of each player, it's now.
The 9-53 pairing is life itself and should carry us to the Stanley Cup.
Not sure if this was discussed, but I didn't like Hak giving the 4th line an O zone start with 6 minutes left and then another one with 3 minutes left in a tie game right after a TV timeout. That was absolutely headscratching for me.

I stopped reading once I read jock carried. No need to continue. Simply not credible.
