Yeah. Wonder how Marchand would handle that? Turtle

I agree. I did not care when he got taken to task last night.
- Just5

Zajac sure showed Gudas' helmet and back who's in charge.

I don't care for Gudas, and whether the hit was intentional or not, it's a play you can't make, so I applaud Zajac for stepping up for his teammate. But just because Zajac threw a bunch of punches, I don't think he actually landed one on Gudas' face.

Yeah.

They played not to lose. I really think they just lack faith as a team in any goalie not Elliott right now.

- J35Bacher

I don't think the team will have lost faith in Neuvirth based on two poor games, one of which he was sick for and only played because Elliott was injured.

Agree...but this teams seems to have a very difficult time at putting teams away and winning comfortably
- 3flyerkids

Well they certainly have at certain parts of the season such as during the 10 game losing streak and last night but they also have been one of the best teams record wise over a significant period of time before this 3 game losing streak.

Gudas is an absolute moron and does not belong in the NHL.
He needs to be beaten up on a regular basis.

Right now wouldn’t be a good time to insert a kid in the lineup. The team is mired in a three game losing streak. Not gonna throw a kid into the fire like that.

I personally don't have a lot of faith in Neuvirth. He can certainly get hot and play some stellar games but over the long haul, he's not a goaltender you can rely on in my opinion.

Not naming names but the PK is awful. Get the Flyers to take a penalty and you can pretty much use a Sharpie to mark the future goal on your score sheet.

The hit last night by Gudas was completely accidental in my opinion. Leaving his feet certainly wasn't the best choice but it was a reflex reaction to try and avoid hitting the player. You can say he was a little out of control but a defenseman in deep like that has to get on his horse and get back when he sees the puck may be going the other way.

I don't think you can rely on him to be healthy and start a bunch of games for you, but his play can usually be relied on.

It's catastrophic. It's to the point where you're surprised when they kill one off.

Neuvirth has more poor to mediocre games than he has good games. At least it seems that way.

I would love to see a video of the management meetings where they decided that the way to improve the terrible PK was to start putting the slowest player on the team out there as a regular.

Doesn't seem to me like it matters what personnel they put out there.

Probably just recency bias. He does seem more night and day though.

Hockey abstract has some goalie metrics:

Neuvirth has 7 "quality starts" and 4 "really bad starts" in 13 starts (.538 qs% / .308 rbs%)

Elliott has 16 "quality starts" and 6 "really bad starts" in 37 starts (.432 qs% / .162 rbs%)

No matter what happens this season there is no way Laparriere can be back next season.

I would try to get Laughton and Leier back on the PK. they did seem to be able to put pressure on the PP early in the season.

Also the defenders need to be better. Too many failed clears and just not strong on sticks in close to the net.

quality start is a start with a sv% higher than season average sv %

really bad start is below 85%

by no means a perfect system...some goals are bad and some the goalie has nothing he can do...but it is what it is

The PK was at 75% before Lehtera became a regular on 1/6/18. Since then it's at 69.7%, and Lehtera has been on the ice for 6 GA in 15 minutes.

Scott Laughton not being be used ahead of Lehtera on the PK is a disgrace. It's hurting his development as a player, and it's hurting the team.

Lehtera isn't even the 14th best forward on the Flyers and yet has played both the PP and PK

I am baffled as to how Lehtera and Leier end up on the power play, and guys like Val are on the PK? How come the more offensive oriented guys aren't up on the PP. Along with Couts and Provorov the entire second PP unit needs to be revamped. They also need to start playing Raffl and Laughton on the PK more. Both are defensively responsible, and both can handle the puck. The line combinations and overall player management, I don't know how anyone can agree with Hakstol he is using the best overall lineup. If he thinks Sanheim or Alt gives him less of a chance to win over Manning or MacDonald, he doesn't deserve to be a coach at all, much less an NHL head coach.

The PK seems like a perfect Scott Laughton role, given his style as a player.

He has too much foot speed and talent for the Flyers PK.
