Don't encourage him, he'll start to think that people actually care.

The hit last night by Gudas was completely accidental in my opinion. Leaving his feet certainly wasn't the best choice but it was a reflex reaction to try and avoid hitting the player. You can say he was a little out of control but a defenseman in deep like that has to get on his horse and get back when he sees the puck may be going the other way.

That is straight from Neal's defense book after he had decapitated Coots

You being the number one participant, imo some of your views are severely fracked up and now you want to be a peace maker, go jump off a bridge man.

MJL is the most ignorant, misinformed person I know besides Hakstol, imo
- joegreif17

I don't find him to be ignorant or misinformed. I don't agree with his views on things, and I think that he's a been too blindly loyal at times, but I'd never label him as misinformed.

Yeah.

They played not to lose. I really think they just lack faith as a team in any goalie not Elliott right now.

- J35Bacher

If they did not trust goalie they should have been on the attack entire third period instead of turtling into a defensive shell (and rely on that goalie to make saves)

Its amazing to watch him play, and remember he was a 1C at one point

All those people who wished for Read to not be in the Flyers bottom 6 in 17-18 must have been using a monkey's paw.

I agree. Overly argumentative, with a pressing need to always feel like he is in the right, would be a much better description.

For those who were belly aching about Lehtera on PP2...

Per Charlie over at The Athletic:
Just as Hakstol chose to mix up the bottom-six line combinations against the Devils, so did the coaching staff decide to shake up the second power play unit as well. They key youngsters remained in their usual spots — Patrick, Provorov and Konecny aren't going anywhere — but Weal and Jori Lehtera were stapled to the bench during power play situations on Thursday. In their places were Filppula (a former PP regular) and in a major surprise, Leier.

If they're going to use Hagg a lot against top lines as they have then MacDonald is the better choice to pair with Hagg in that situation.
- MJL

No, he isn't. He's a poor possesion player, just like Hagg, and putting that combo out against top lines has predictably seen them struggle terribly to get the puck out of their own zone.

For all those who whine about the Gudas play last night, get over it and get over yourselves. Poop happens with the speed of the new age game but if you think it was a malicious act YOU ARE A MORON. I miss the bloody hockey the game now is far to soft and open to criticism by as equally soft observers.

No, we're back again to you not realizing that the coach only has the players on the roster to choose from and that some players simply have to play better.
- MJL

The coach chose to stop playing Leier and Weise almost entirely in favor of Lehtera, and chose to give Lehtera twice as much SH TOI in the past month as Laughton. They were bad choices with bad results, and it's genuinely sad that you can't admit that.

For the record, I have defended Hakstol on many topics over the past three years, so no, I do not have a clear bias against him. You defend every single thing he does, so it's pretty obvious who is biased here.

To me the Gudas play was a reckless but accidental play. He probably doesn't see Palmieri behind Simmonds but with his history and him leaping off the ice he put himself in a bad spot. The league may even see fit to sit him again. I hate it if they do but it has all the hallmarks of a play that player safety will rule on.

I don't think it was malicious. but it was still reckless. You're responsible for your actions on the ice.

Much like a player sticking out his leg in reaction to a player cutting around him, even if it's not intentional, you're still responsible for what you do out there.

I don't think he'll get suspended, but then again it's DOPs so who knows. He is a reckless player though and I don't think he's ever going to change.
