Jay Bouwmeester was a first pairing, Canadian Olympic team level defenseman when he was traded. Same term as Patches, more valuable position. Might want to look up what he and other similar trades got back in return, then re-calibrate your expectations for deadline trades.

Team look promising back when he played some said he couldn’t play defense but he could work the PP. So did Karlsson and Ottawa traded for Methot to help that problem. I never understood why didn’t Bergevin never bring in a guy to help Subban out

Montreal is over playing their hand and will get pennies on the dollar in a Patches trade. Either that or he is still with the team in training camp in September.

Patch will get you a good return but not what you are asking for. Also I would not say he is a proven leader when the recent history has proved completely otherwise.

Bouwmeester was a 20-something point defencemen when he was dealt to St. Louis and he was always considered a disappointment in Calgary the way his offensive game fell off. he rejuvenated his career when he ended up with Pietrangelo and that's how he ended up on the Olympic team.
