Maybe not so rough 2 yrs, zz....... The club still has Kane and the rest of the billion dollar core although not worth their hit are still NHL players...... Some development of younger players, a shrewd add or two with never before had cap space, Crow back to normal a surprise or two along with a useful draft to help a couple yrs out?
I still say in this flat (earth) cap world it's not how much better you get each yr it's how much less worse. Other teams are or will see what cap hell looks like while the Hawks see some relief in that regard. - Mr Ricochet
the great LV knight's have 13-14 ufa/rfa's and no one making more than 5 mildo; not surprising their roster is full of players with something to prove in a contract year...they won't be able to keep them all...

Nothing more fun than to watch an NHLer who is hungry, motivated, playing for his next contract and when you have a bunch of those you have a dangerous opponent. .......
I always hoped after each purge that the new young blood would give new life and motivation to the core. Never quite worked out that way though. Maybe next yr although I have little complaint with the team effort the last 5-6-7 games.

An even better post than your last. IMO the smartest people in any facet of life, sorry for the Toyota Mike Ditka (Japanese Iron Mike) life philosophy, know what they don't know and find people who do. Make a decision on managerial personnel and stay out of their way reviewing their results as needed.
And that's where we are now, evaluating the results of your managers, no? - Mr Ricochet
Exactly. Last year was tough, it shortened a lot of leashes. This year, those leashes are starting to choke people. Not everyone will survive.

I defended you earlier and this is how you come at me? If you aren’t going to take the post lunch nap your Daddy negotiated for you then get back to work. Last time I checked the team was on a losing streak.

I give more credit to cable tv, since the Cubs were being broadcast during the day all over the country in the 80s 90s 00s, also to the area going through a regentrification, tons of young people began living in the area and it became a life style on the north side. He does get credit for being in the right place at the right time - BetweenTheDots
(frank)ing A, great point. Timed the Cubs and especially the hawks perfectly. Let's see him sell being awesome when they are not awesome. On NHL radio yesterday Bill Waters referred to the hawks organization as arrogant. I usually think that guy is a cranky old man, but it's hard to disagree with him there. Nice post. |

Cubs at had the charm/history/feel of Wrigley Field to attract countless out of town tourists with no interest in the team and its performance to ensure butts were in the seats.
The UC possesses none of that nostalgia. It is a pretty sterile and contemporary take on modern indoor stadiums emulated by many other venues. Nothing unique enough about it to have draw on its own merit.
The “brand” does not stand on its own in the face of poor performance either. Again, winning = revenue in sports.
Yes, sales of season tickets, food and drink, and merchandise will suffer for a while until the team gets back on the rails. I do remain optimistic that IF the front office discloses to its fans what its true intentions are with respect to a plan to rebuild the team that the damage to revenues won’t be as significant as it could be by playing smoke and mirrors prentending that hope remains as currently constituted for a playoff run.
Part of that plan must also include finding successor HOF players when the current core is gone. I see nothing to convince me there is any possibility of renaissance among 19, 2, and 7. 50 will probably move on after his contract expires - we will have had the best of his years anyway, but that means you need another stud goalie too. None of this can happen drafting low year after year. |

Still raining money on the north side
Yu Darvish 6 years for $150 mil
Baseball money is ridiculous |

|
Maybe Rocky can get so many owners to agree to getting rid of the hard cap? Wouldn't that be nice |

Players have the leverage this time. The owners can already taste the expansion bonus from Seattle. I dont think the league wants to delay that at all. |

My son said as a 10 year old the first time he went to the UC for a game " dad, this place is like a shopping mall that mom drags me to".
Atta boy, tell it like it is.

It’s only $126MM over 6 - must have taken a discount to pitch in CubsPark. |

I know he wants to, if he was willing to eat Huets contract in the minors so they could spend more money to help his team win.... |
