Justin Lowe: Next Year Will Look Very Similar to this Year
The Hawks lose again. It was their 6th loss in a row at home. Oh no! John McDonough will not be happy about the "product" that has been limping around in front of his season ticket holders.
I want to reverse that disastrous trade from two years ago w Montreal.
Who are our Weise and Fleischmann that we can trade this deadline to a contender that will get us a Danault level youngster and a 2nd round pick?
Sharp? Bouma? Wingels? Kempny?
Weise and Fleischmann were bottom line grit players for the playoffs, nothing more. We gotta have similar that we can trade.

TRANSACTION:
The @NHLBlackhawks have recalled defenseman Carl Dahlstrom from the #IceHogs
A nice promotion for the kid after putting up a solid season in the AHL. Thinking the Hawks want to see what they have in him.

Don't forget about Franson in Rockford. I say Franson and Wingels for one of Toronto's youngsters (I have no idea who, I just really like the way Toronto lays) and a pick.
The Hawks have been playing better since the all star break, its the little things that are costing this team games. Experience will do this team good.
“Deadline Chatter/Rumour Update: it looks like Bowman has been giving the green light to act on some moves. Bowman (and the Hawks) are not a patient team, so I've been told that the Hawks will not be waiting for the February 26th trade deadline. If Stan can do something sooner with the limited pieces he has, he will.”
I’m fine with as long as it’s only minor moves, if someone wants to add depth players like Wingels, Bouma etc... for late round picks fine. But I don’t want him doing anything else. He’s done enough damage already.

The 'Hawks don't have a Weise this year.
When Weise was traded to the 'Hawks, he was a bottom-six player who had 26 points in 56 games, and was having a career year (also an expiring contract). With those numbers, he'd be in the top-5 for the 'Hawks this year in scoring (ahead of the likes of Saad, Hartman, AA, Keith).
The 'Hawks gritty players like Wingels and Bouma? They'd be lucky to fetch anything at all. They've underperformed all season. Maybe a 6th/7th? But even then, it would probably be a conditional pick.
As JL alluded to earlier, it's a bad time for the 'Hawks to be sellers, considering that they've got nothing to sell.

If Bowman’s comments are to be taken as the true path they intend to follow, then it is code for “tank and let the smoke clear after next season”.
It is the only way back, and I applaud them if this is indeed what the plan is.
A poor season this year and next ensures two better than what we have been accustomed to first round picks. Couple that with moving some players for more picks and refining who stays and who goes from the younger player group will ultimately bring into focus where the real missing parts are.
But behind it all must be a direction for what kind of team they want to be. This to me may be the most important thing to resolve. It is clear to me anyway that a team built purely around skill and speed is not enough. There must be a balance that includes size, grit, and above all, the abandonment of perimeter and one and done rush hockey.
So lets all raise a glass to a horrible finish to the next two seasons, and hope a new and effective identity and plan for the future are in the works.

Justin, agree with you about the "goalie wins"... would the team's record be as bad if Crow was in net all year? I'd like to think not, but who really knows?!
Anyway, I was all prepared to come out here today after beating Dallas, and say that Saturday night was our first "playoff game"... then last night happened, and all I can say is: Hopefully we can take out Minny on Saturday, not to save our playoff chances, but because Misery loves company.
First year in a long time the Hawks have looked this bad. They simply don't have the horses in the stable right now to compete. I think firing McD would be extreme. He was a huge factor in the rebirth of this franchise. If the Hawks missing the playoffs this year allows them to go on another 5-6 year run coming up (hoping of course they can retool it this off season and the experience gained this year will pay huge dividends for the youngsters), then I am fine with it. It sucks because I expect a team with Kane and Toews to be in the playoffs every year, but assuming that their core can play and be successful with just about anybody is naive.
I think it's worth pointing out his comments aren't just spin for fans, they are spin for any GM looking to make deals with the Hawks. Telling fans you don't feel pushed to make changes, despite missing playoffs, tells other GM's you feel secure with your job and content with your team; so if they want something you have they'll have to pay face value.

I think you have to see what you can get for AA, Hartman, and Saad (along with the guys you mentioned and Kempny/Ruuta). I'd really list Kane as the only untouchable, but other guys are too for different reasons (Toews, Keith, Seabs, DeBrincat, and Schmaltz).

Ahhhh.....no.
Opportunistic and smart guy who hitched his trailer to a rising star at the right time. Nothing more and nothing less. Easy to sell a winning team. Not so easy to sell a losing team. Even harder for a marketing guy to truly have any positive impact on building and maintaining a winning team when he has no experience in the sport.
Its about the right people in the right roles. Let the accountants handle the money, the marketing people do the marketing, the hockey guys make the hockey decisions, and accept that the success of a sports franchise is ultimately tied only to one thing - winning.
