I think it is funny (not aimed at anyone in particular) when posters first reaction to signing Perron at 4.5 for 3 years is keep away from that contract signing.
Yet I bet most here would be okay with signing Sven for 3x3
In the last two years.
Perron has been healthier for 30 more games than Sven . Perron has scored about 50 more points than Sven . DP has more hits , more fights and better net presence . Sven could also then be traded for an asset.

The team has finished bottom 3 for three years in a row. What do you think the chances are of improvement with no moves made during the summer? - VANTEL
We know most likely
Horvat
Sutter
Eriksson
Baertschi
Gagner
Boeser
Gaunce
Gaudette
Leipsic
Virtanen
Probably
Granlund RFA
Archibald
Sedin
Sedin
Goldobin
Some group unfortunately
Edler
MDZ
Gudbranson
Tanev
Hutton
Stecher RFA
Biega
Pouliot RFA
Markstrom
Nilsson
Demko
Who do you see realistically of the group losing their job or being moved?
I see minor improvements with more competition with prospects not mentioned. Maybe Demko wins a spot. Goaltending will be better. Unfortunately it will be baby steps maybe 10 point increase?? Future looks bright...but it will be a while. Another big draft will help.

How? I could see a Tanev trade to upgrade the top LW but aside from that how?
Sven is a RFA and needs a contract and if I had to choose a three year deal between Sven or Perron I take DP.
It is not a long term move both players would not be part of the future past their contract.

Canucks gave up one second 3 years ago? Doubt he is more valuable now, but who knows.
Edit - kind of like a used car. You don’t often get more than you paid, sometimes, but not often. - 1970vintage
I understand what you are attempting to say. It really doesnt work that way though.
Using you analogy. When Van picked up sven he had no engine. You now put an engine in, show it can run. Its definitely worth more then you paid. |

The funny thing is Eriksson has a horrible contract to keep but a great contract to trade if Canucks retain half the cap hit.
The other team would be on the books for 3 mil only but actual cost would be 4 mil 2 mil 1 mil 1 mil for the remaining years I think he has one year left as a Canuck.
I think the team should look to upgrade some of those players this year small moves but still an upgrade

Oilers are in year 9 of suckage, Canucks are in year five, we may catch them at nine years if things don't improve soon! - LeftCoaster
11 years of suckable play, if their one playoff appearance counts, then so does ours. |

No....11 seasons ago they were two years removed from a Cup final and had a 41 win season 88 points, that's not suckage. The next year they had 38 wins 85 points, again, not suckage. They were a middling team always trying to get that 8th playoff spot.
In 2009/10 they said (frank) it we're tanking the season and trying to win like the Penguins just did with Crobsy and Malkin and Fleury and Jordan Staal, etc., that was the start of their futility IMO. That's nine seasons ago including this one. |

Here's the problem though, what if in two years the kids are ready, Goldobin, Dahlen, Boucher, Lind, Gadjovich, Pettersson, Gaudette, Boeser, whoever they draft this year, what do you do with Perron then when you already have Eriksson, Gagner, Baertschi, Virtanen, Grandlund, Leipsic, Motte, etc. |

If you are taking Perron why are you signing Baertschi? Perron is signed as the upgrade of Sven . I don't think Boucher ever makes the team full time. |

Even if you take those two out there's still a ton of wingers there.
Dahlen, Pettersson (center/wing), Boeser, Lind, Gadjovich, Gagner, Eriksson, Virtanen, Leipsic.
A one year deal would be awesome, but they don't sign those kinds of deals and there's nothing that says he wants to come play for a perennial loser team like the Canucks when he can take a discount to play for Vegas for the last few years of his career and win! |

3 years is longer then I would want to commit to any “patch”. I don’t believe Perron is an upgrade, AND I would want to move Baertschi this summer. Would rather work on improving Goldobin to the point he is a contributing NHLer. I don’t see improving as an important step next year, at least from a league standings perspective. Improvement in individual and team play? Yes! Results in the standings? Still a bottom 1/3 of the league team. |

You have said it before not all of them work out. Gagner also has two years left Sedins ? Players out players in .
It is no different than signing Sven for 3 years. All I am saying if you are signing Sven 3 years why not upgrade to Perron for three years. |

Yes not all of those kids will make it, however, signing Perron (which is a pipe dream IMO, why would he sign here) could potentially block a kid from a spot in two years.
I see the immediate benefit, but not long term. |

The 50 points difference tells me DP would be an upgrade over Sven .
If you are moving Sven out regardless then that is a different topic . I am for that but he needs to be replaced. I do think Canucks will re-sign him but I hope he is moved and upgraded. We need a better top LW |
