So TSN1040 reported that the Sedin's had a secret meeting with Management. Their reporting was a little laughable as they said the meeting was EITHER about a retirement celebration for the last game at the end of the season or about a return next year.
Talk about covering all your bases.... - Beatle_john
If they are talking before the end of the season then it's retirement?
I think Canucks are trying to find out so if it is Adios they can celebrate if not it is business as usual |

After Daniels comment about being able to play in the league. I kind of think they are leaning towards returning.
What Vanek said is true. They have always seemed like stand up guys.
I have loved watching them play for years.
I just don't think the team is going to win a cup with them. It's just time to move on. Let me be wrong though. - manvanfan
Never for a moment did I think they didn't want to keep playing. Why would they retire? They are like any other hockey player so this idea that they would quit while they can still contribute like top 6 players makes no sense. No one does that... why the Sedins? They are very competitive. They are not trying to retire from their poopty job or anything and if JB doesnt want to extend them... they will play somewhere else.

Don't know what the heck gagner was doing on the mcdavid goal but it turns out to be the greatest goal ever scored - Bettmanhatesus
Typically body position buys you enough time to make your decision... not CMD. Players almost look at him like that wasnt fair when he does this all night long.

We need too send motte down, he's jeopardizing the tank.
The only great reason to not sign the twins is because they'd jeopardize the tank.
I dont want to tank next year. Anyone who doesn't want the twins back next year is hoping that we're a bottom 5 team.... again.
I'm calling for playoffs next year, contingent on a top three pick this season, OJ, Petterson, Dahlen, Dahlin all making the team by out playing players that we lose on waivers (hutton, strech, Dowd, Sven, motte) and picking up Kane for 5x5.... and Taveres for 1x 14.5 (who then signs long term for below market value because he believes in this team).

Playoffs - Pres.cup
I've been thinking that the Canucks do need to do something bold & creative to accumulate not just a few really good prospects, but a bunch of truly elite talent.
The Sundin Plan is one option I think they should definitely explore with some of the higher profile UFA's.
Sign one to something like a $25MM two year contract with a MNTC. Prior to next year's trade deadline, move that player to a contender with 50% salary retained. That gives the trading team 2 cracks at a cup run with cost control on a star player they otherwise wouldn't be able to afford. It would be a rare opportunity for a contender as well as the player.
The team the player is traded to can then resign the player after the two year contract is done, and do it for a lower cap hit because he'll have already made a good chunk of his money from the Canucks. By then the salary cap is likely to have gone up as well.
8 X $12MM = $96MM
$96MM - $25MM = $71MM
$71MM divided by 8 = $8.88MM

I want them back for 1 more year. There is not enough depth to cover their loss and no tandem will have 40 - 50 point seasons. Just no 3 on 3 time.

I'll say 1 year but at that same 5M cap hit. They're 35+ so the Canuck can make it performance based as well. |

1 year at no more than 4. 3.5 preferred.

I hope 5 is the max bonuses included or no bonus . It would scare the hell out me for those two to have a reason to hog the puck.

BEST SALO STORY:
He was once asked at a post season playoff presser if his mysterious lower body injury was getting better and he responded that he is improving but it still burns when he pees. |

Goldobin looks like he's starting to figure out how to play at this level. Possibly makes Baertschi expendable. Perhaps Canucks can sign Sven for a reasonable cap hit and then move him to a team that has a surplus of D prospects but needs middle-six scoring depth.
Don't really know which teams have a logjam of good young D guys. Nashville? Philly? Calgary? - YeOldTimer
Sven is defensively sound. Coaches love that security blanket on their offensive players.
I am on board with continuing the Goldobin project none the less. He's got great hands and shifty feet... now he's showing some great heads up play making skills as well. Maybe he fills a scoring gap or develops into a decent tradable asset. Keep working with him for sure. |

He adds time for OJ to develop more. He has been playing solid , nothing flashy no mistakes and as Carol pointed out Canucks have not lost. Funny how not coughing up the puck in your own end helps |

I was at the Rangers game where, after clawing back from multiple one goal deficits he has the worst central zone giveaway and then watched as the guy who stole the puck eventually scored. No backcheck... and benched for the rest of the night.
I no longer trust him. |
