This article was a joy to read. Being a Flyers fan it is fun to think about what is coming. It has been a long road to travel but the light at the end is shining brighter and brighter with each passing day.
A very well stated and sound article. The Flyers could do no worse IMHO if they were to dress Hagg and scratch Gudas, Simmonds and Lehterä in favor of Weal and Leier. They would certainly be much faster, more creative and have more overall skill. There is no answer to Filppula besides waiting for his contract to expire.

There is the short view and the long view. This organization before the arrival of Ron Hextall took the short view in its quest for a 3rd Stanley Cup. For its fans it brought a lot of trips to the Finals but not the prize. Most Flyers fans do not realize no other organization has been to the Finals more than theirs size 1974.
Living in LA-LA Land, this is like watching a rerun. Hextall knows a team must be built for the goal out unlike generations of Flyers GM. For their entirety, the Flyers have drafted one 2nd team All-Star defenseman, Jimmy Watson and two All Star level goaltenders...Hextall and Lindbergh. Hextall may have already matched that, if Carter Hart can replicate his CHL numbers and Provorov.
The combination of Couturier and Patrick over the next couple of years should compete anyone's 1C - 2C combination and there is organization depth at this position, which should yield 3C and 4C. The question marks are on the wings. This team has not had a sniper in years...a consistent 40-50 goal a year scorer. There are suspects in their system but not prospects.
