Comes down to free UFA if he fills needs.
What price tag do you put on him? - Nighthawk
I think that's the problem, some team will shell out 7+mill on the guy and i pray it ain't us. That said, the problem with him will be term, he will be 27 by the start of next season and has already shown to be the Chris Tanev of forwards, so he's likely useless by his early thirties yet will seek a 6-7 year contract.
We already have Eriksson, Sutter and Gud, we have to be careful cap-wise if our prospects do turn out to be the real deal, otherwise we will be bleeding valuable assets ala Chicago.
If guys like Brock, Pettersson, Demko, Dahlen etc etc etc hit their true potential, they will not come cheap and we will likely only begin to contend (if ever) when these guys ELC's end 3-4 years down the road. |

Fine then how would you like our cap used? - Nighthawk
I don't want it used. Save it. It will be eaten up soon enough by Brock and Elias and likely whoever we draft this year. Maybe eat a year on a vet like spezza if it pays us in a good pic or prospect. Otherwise sit on the money and wait out the season. See what happens at the deadline |

Yeah we don't need Benning staggering around like a drunk sailor on payday, buying any kind of poop.

Exactly... we've seen how well he does at free agency... we lost 14 mil in sedins contracts... but Brock is a 7 mil player already and most likely Elias is as well. Don't need another mentorship lifetime achievement contract handed out on July 1 |

No doubt. It will be interesting how Benning goes about negotiating that contract.
Does he let Brock play out the year and risk putting up a ppg for a huge payday or try and ring him in this off-season as a '30 goal' bridge style contract.
Either way its going to be pricey lol. |

We all know he's the real deal...if he only scores 20 then I'd guess he was injured and missed 30 games |

cap space is burning a hole in the guys pocket and wants to get rid of it |

I'd go up 9 mil for Brock on max term 8 yrs. I'm convinced about him |

seeing what vegas did for pittsburgh at the deadline with their cap space is what i would like to see from the canucks. buy some assets without clogging the 23 man roster |

I wouldn’t. You’d better see savings on an eight year deal and I don’t see that unless the cap rises significantly. |

Brock seems like a good kid . I would wait 30-40 games and if he is still putting up numbers ask him to sign an 8x6 |

He's the best player on the team... bar none. Best players on most teams are 9 mil plus |

In that case he would have to have a monster, non-extended sophomore season.
But hey, its nice to finally talk about having to shell out the big bucks on young players. |

Many if not most of those contracts are anchors, I’d rather not have one. |
