Threshold issue. The Sens are either in rebuild mode or they are not.

If they are in rebuild mode their priorities and options are clear.

In rebuild mode you hope to contend in a 3 to 5 year horizon. It means playing a very young roster starting next year.

Winning the Dahlin lottery would be a game changer. Sens would be sitting with Karlsson, Chabot and Dahlin as assets. Who do you deal and for what?

I believe the Sens will deal Karlsson and they will end up with the equivalent of two top 5 picks (their own plus another) and a top young player (e.g. Draisaitl) who might be available directly or in a a three way deal.

I think Buffalo is the most interesting team in the draft. If they lose the #1 pick again they will be huge players in trying to acquire a #1 D. Edmonton will also be players and so will the Leafs (trying to build a blue line).

I have a buddy who says the Sens best option, if they win the lottery, is to resign Karlsson and deal the #1 pick (Dahlin) for a top 5 pick and a blue chip prospect (e.g. Mittlestadt).

Sabre's could use a great winger too. If they wind up with 2-3, I think they would keep it to play on Eichel's wing.

agreed. i can't see buffalo making an offer like that.

Unless all top 3 seeds go to teams below 5, once we do get to #5 overall, that’s the 1st spot we can see Ottawa.

I always had a feeling Zadina would be taken by the Sens. Too be honest I'm not a scout and I trust our scouting staff - I just have loss faith in this ownership + management (who seem to march at the beat of Melnyk's drum). I have a hard time seeing the Sens taking a Russian player.

Although seeing what Tarasenko & especially Kucherov can do, I hope their minds can change if they think he's worth it. Personally it all means nothing unless Melynk get's serious and resigns Karlsson long term. IF Dahlin is here then they should resign Karlsson and have them as a top pair for a at least 3-5 seasons at a good value

I think Svechnikov is the "safer" pick, whereas Zadina has potential to be a more prolific goal scorer. What a great problem that'd be to have.

I think both will be good players. I think if Ottawa get's #2 it becomes a problem. Then you go with Svechnikov; if it's #3 it's likely a pick between Tkachuk and the guy who's left.
