they want to increase goal scoring right? Instead of removing every piece of goalie equipment possible or trying to make the nets bigger, just allow that crap - it takes skill. - Mtlca66
Completely agree. Although the soccer playing Europeans will definitely have an advantage over the North Americans. |

Claude Lemieux was probably one of the most hated guys in the NHL and by every fan other than the team he was playing on. The agitator role is a love/hate relationship. You want it on your team but hate when they aren't.
If you want hockey(not saying you do) to be just a bunch of skilled guys who never check or talk poop or fight, its definitely not a game I would be interested in. Its basically the allstar game before the 3 on 3. - mdw7413
Claude Lemiuex was actually capable of playing halfway decent hockey (scored at nearly 3x the PPG as Wilson does) and played in an era where you were allowed to hook and hold and the game was played at half the pace it is today. Now equipment is lighter, players train better, and fly around the ice faster and unobstructed. A lot of Lemiuex's stuff was indefensible too, but at least he had a place in the league. Wilson is completely untalented garbage.
I'm not crying every time someone gets hurt or even every time there's a dirty hit...but I have a problem with (frank)heads like Wilson that have absolutely no respect for their peers and make it a habit to injure guys on a regular basis. I love big hits as much as anyone (I like fighting, but nowadays it's either staged or in response to perfectly-clean, hard hits and that kind of fighting is dumb and I hate it) but there's nothing good about the way Wilson plays. |

Agreed with the bold, have to agree to disagree about the last sentence.
And lets be honest, none of us have any idea if Wilson "wants to injure players". I could easily say Wilson wants to make big hits which are perfectly legal and gets carried away sometimes. |

Just in the interest of full-transparency, I tacked on to the end of my first paragraph about Lemiuex because it read, to me, like I was defending things he did. That Draper hit in '96 was one of the most awful hits I've ever seen.
Well I can't say with certainty that Wilson wakes up in the morning and thinks "I can't wait to injury someone", but his repeated reckless hits don't really convince me that he doesn't think that either.
I loathe everything about him and, personally, I wouldn't want that crap anywhere near my team. It's bad enough I have to watch a grossly-overpaid Clutterbuck run around like a weasel and not back anything up, but at least he doesn't seriously injure people and laugh about it. |

I probably shouldn't have brought Clutterbuck up. To close to home and what he is getting paid. |

It's fair...I mean he does some questionable stuff, I can admit that much. But he's not some goon idiot either.
And I know full-well that, even though you were just ribbing me about my feelings on Tom Wilson smiling and laughing all the time, if Clutterbuck came barreling full-speed into Hank and then got up and laughed in the Rangers faces when they got upset about it....you and everyone here would most definitely blow your tops (understandably) over it. |

I could be wrong but I think he was laughing at the Pens defenseman, not sure who it was, but he was chirping at Wilson all the way to the bench.
Well Kassian told Vesey he hopes he bleeds out after Vesey taking Kassians skate to his mouth, and everyone thought that was hilarious. I believe you even posted the link laughing about it. |

I don't remember that story or posting a link to it, but I guess it's possible I did. And yeah, a one-time thing like that (that doesn't concuss anyone) is funny, unless Kassian intentionally kicked him in the mouth. |

personally, I am appalled by Tom Wilson's repeated predatory hits, but, I have no sympathy for Penguins fans.
You guys repeatedly defended Matt Cooke's hits over the years, and sometimes, the chicken comes home to roost. - jimbo83
I'm a Pens fan. I hate headshots and was appalled by Cooke's behavior and glad when they finally gave him a real punishment. And when they did it worked and he changed his game.
I just wish they did that to all the players who are out of control. If that means some games missed for guys like Malkin and Letang who've had some cheap shots of their own so be it. In Wilson's case he just concussed a guy 2 games in a row and was laughing about it, so the league needs to do something about him. |

1/ If u have played the game the way I have, this clip is not that difficult to break down. Notice Wilson’s right skate before or at the initial point of contact. It is leaving the ice intentionally, which means he thrusts his body into an upward direction, which is towards the 2/ head of Reese. If we look at the left skate during the point of contact, Wilson is rising up onto his toe, as if he is trying to jump, hence the reason he ended up sitting on the dasher of his own bench after the hit. It is clear that Reese sees Wilson coming but that has very 3/ little to do with the fact that Wilson clearly makes contact with the head/jaw of Reese, in direct result of jumping and thrusting his body in an upward motion. Bc of this, we have a human being who may get the right diagnosis of a #concussion yet will he receive the treatment 4/ he so very clearly deserves, from a league that refuses to admit a link between traumatic brain injuries and the need for treatment #cte @NHLPlayerSafety #nhldobetter #georgeparros @NHL #denial @NHLPA #compliance #tbi #alzheimers #dementia #parkinsons #depression #anxiety #nhl |

Had the league of denial made the right call in game 2 with Wilson’s hit to the head on Doumilin, Reese’s jaw would be in tact & he wouldn’t be suffering from a traumatic brain injury. He is now at risk for early on set #Alzheimers #dementia #parkinsons #tbi #cte @NHLPlayerSafety |

mdw and jimbo are both absolutely correct.
Initial point of contact is shoulder to shoulder. Did not leave his feet. Elbow is down. Stick ( including butt-end ) is not a factor. Aston- Reese saw him coming, this was not a blind side hit. Only part that may be disputable is hit was tad late. Watching video at full speed, I can see Wilson was late, but not to the point where discipline will be necessary.
All adds up to LEGAL HIT.
Any Penguin fan crying over this now knows the feelings of others where Crosby, Malkin, Cooke etc. have gotten away with far worse.
Is Wilson a player that crosses the line? Yes!
Does NHL have to change rules to protect players from future hits like this? Absolutely!
However, despite the injury, this is a hit within current rules. I actually wish this hit was on Crosby to illustrate that the rule does need to be changed. A hit like this on Crosby would certainly speed up the amendment process. - TommyGTrain
Not really. I think players have only been suspended once, maybe twice, against Crosby and he's been concussed more then that. NHL doesn't protect anyone including him. |
