Bill -wondering if you will update or review the UFA class. Some good depth centers there. Hoping we try and sign Letestu or Bozak. Also hoping we make a run at Tavares and Carlson but not holding my breathe.

Will do that closer to July. Late re-signings and draft weekend trades inevitably shift that landscape. My next focus after Phantoms and Memorial Cup will be on Draft, then free agency period.

Hopefully this will slow the roll on those who think Frost makes the Flyers out of camp next season.

It sounds like the kid needs to put on some muscle so he can withstand the rigors of playing with men.

And if he wants to be a center in the NHL, he will need to do that.

Giroux may be small, but by all accounts his offseason regimen is pretty hardcore.

At 18, though, he was smaller and frailer than Frost.

Totally agree. Very telling that he "slumped" through the OHL playoffs, IMO. Another year in junior isn't going to hurt him and might keep him from getting killed when he does make the jump.

RE: Rubstov

Any chance this is a period of personal adjustment for a 19YO kid away from home for a prolonged period of time?

I doubt he forgot how to play hockey.

I'd say very possible

Hopefully Frost reacts the same way Giroux did. (I have no doubts he does)

I wondered myself if Rubstov's drop off had to do with "pouting" over being sent back to juniors over making the Phantoms. while you want to see a player power thru disappointment part of me would be relieved if that was the case.

Certainly. But other players go through the same thing, and it doesn't seem to affect them on the ice once they make the adjustments. A year ago, Rubtsov himself had 22 points 16 games after coming over from Russia. So he's capable of producing more than he has this season.

I wonder if he is going through something similar to what Hagg went through. Maybe he is struggling to move from being "the offensive" catalyst to just a middle 6 player and it seems like disinterest/malaise.

Again...this is me wondering out loud, I am not saying that is exactly the case.

I haven't been following him as closely as others. I did read he was transitioning to wing.

It has also crossed my mind that since he is already a sound defensive player that maybe he has fallen in to the "Couturier mentality" a little bit.

The coaches can work with him, get him to show a little more urgency in his offensive game perhaps.

Agreed. I just don't want to be so quick to write off a 19 year old kid that many folks see promise in.

Hextall seems to be of the mindset to wait it out and see how they develop.

Its a good mindset, especially if the plan is to be good for a while.

From what I remember, German was drafted for his strong 2 way play and high hockey IQ/sense; you don’t just forget either. We’ve seen prospects such as Hägg and NAK struggle for where they were drafted but have both “bounced back” in a way. I’m not worried about German just yet. Unless he was a player who tested positive in that drug enhancing scandal and we are now seeing the norm. I highly doubt that but were Names ever released ?

Keep frost down and tell him to work out with Provorov in the offseason. He can play in world juniors too. It's a no brainer, really.

Would love to see Hart start in the A, but I don't think that'll be the case with Lyon and Stolarz. Who knows maybe he'll back up Stolarz with Lyon carrying his strong play to the Flyers

Where will Hart play if not the AHL? I thought he was going to age out of the WHL after this season.

Yeah, this is Hart's last year in junior. He turns 20 in August.

Welp that clears that question up. Thank you! Never knew all the players were unaware. That’s nuts.

Would love to see him start rather than back up. Yes, he graduates from juniors this year.
