Mark Paul: Florida Panthers Trading Partners (New York Rangers)
The Florida Panthers have stated publicly that they're looking to make a big splash in the off-season. This is the third part of a league-wide search for great potential trading partners for the Panthers. Today we will look at the New York Rangers. - Mark Paul
Don't give them any ideas |

I like this line of thinking. Smith could very well turn it around if he's serious enough. |

Florida could have taken him for free when he hit waivers last season. No one else did either. Maybe the guy has a turnaround but I don't see any team giving up a 3rd round pick for him until he proves it.
If Florida wants to offer up a 3rd round pick I bet New York would gladly eat half of Smith's contract. |

I will! I'm going in order from last place to first in the regular seasons standings so the Leafs won't be for a little while but they're coming! |

I'm wondering if that's because no one wanted his entire contract. If the Rangers are willing to eat some of it the story could change. |

Would make more sense for Rangers to wait and see how he looks in camp. Also, Smith I believe has a partial ntc |

My guess is you didn't watch him play, Detroit was thrilled to unload him, and the Rangers would drive him to the airport, pay his airfare and his Florida cab ride, not to mention that salary, I will ask that this doesn't come true, if only to watch little Matty B skate circles around him again this year! |

That would be my guess, too. We had such high hopes for Smitty after that first playoffs! He is one hell of a salesman!
And there will be no circles around him for Barzal. Either Smith will find his game and step up hard on him at the blue line or he won't be in the line up!! |

As a fan of a division rival, please make that trade. Thanks! |

Mark, you should write the Islanders blog now that Noel is hanging up his keyboard. |

How about a TJ Brodie trade from CGY? Or possibly M Stone. It seems you’re looking for right D. Brodie is a left shot but prefers playing right side. What would you give up for either of those guys? |
