If Washington wins they should give McPhee a ring as he's put both the teams together for the most part! - LeftCoaster
lol no doubt. The irony of the situation is uncanny. |

I want the VGK to win, period, Washington can win a Cup after OV retires. Besides us, there's three teams I want to see win a Cup before anyone else. Winnipeg (for the city that got abandoned by the NHL), Ottawa (in spite of Melnyk) and Nashville (because I have been a fan of that team for years and my work friend's son is playing on that team). Still I would love to see a team full of players who were underutilized, unwanted and for the most part until this season underappreciated win the Cup for a city that had the worst mass shooting in history. |

I think LVGK’s success says more about the uselessness of current and past hockey executives and business systems then it does about the extraordinary talents of McPhee and Gallant. |

I would love to see Vegas to win just to silence the ones who believe that you can only win the cup through the draft. |

What? They essentially did win a cup through the draft. Just a different kind of draft (if they win). |

Ya, there's more to it than just McPhee and Gallant for sure. The rallying point of all being outcasts, automatically having a bond and cultural reset, is a pretty big part too. |

There's probably an element of that involved but someone wins it every year so there's always a model to follow, unless you're a forward thinking leader. |

I don't think there's anyone out there stupid enough to think you can only win through the entry draft. There's multiple things that must come together for a championship, the entry draft is a large part of that but clearly not the only part. |

There are two kinds of franchises ....those who copy other teams models ...and those who hang cup banners |

Their top line and goalie were gifts ....not some great scouting done by Vegas ....the knights winning a cup wouldn’t be impressive ...it would be embarrassing for 30 other franchises along with an entire league front office |

McPhee broke down the Capitals in 2004 I think and they've been good for a decade now, I'd say he knows how to build.
Detroit is another team that carved out their own path through the 90's and 2000's. |

Dale Tallon should've be fired by now for letting Marchessault and Reilly go. |

Wasn’t he praised for his work in Chicago or did Stan bowman get the credit ?
That is crazy to think they had to take either of those Florida players |

He also traded Filip Forsberg
And he didn’t bring in Oshie, orpik , Eller, or kempny |

People always use the F. Forsberg trade and call him out but that hardly negates the many many good things he's done.
At the time Forsberg was a prospect and he was trying to compete for a Cup with a good Washington team. So he made the trade, obviously didn't work out, how many times have we seen that movie before though? |

Well if we are going to praise the man for things he didn’t fully do why can’t we criticize him for things he did fully do ?
Traded a 4th rounder for Dustin penner
Traded Matthieu Perrault for a 4th and John mitchel
Traded a 2nd and Cody Eakin for a coked out mike ribeiro
Traded a first rounder for Troy Brouwer
Can’t really give him credit for drafting Ovie ...or backstrom
He did turn Varlamov into Forsberg ...but then screwed thst up
John Carlson pick was a good trade
Kuznetsov and burakovski were good pics too
Drafted Holtby
I’m just not convinced that he is some genius here ...you give any GM enough time they will find a way to look both good and bad

And to prove you don't need a stud D or a true elite 1C |

Seems like teams with a stud D and 1C typically win while the teams without those end up just finalist

Either way - its impressive that they've made it this far without both and they've bull dozed through LA, SJ and the Jets (all teams that do)
Point is a lot of people argue having a 1C and 1D is a must and they've clearly proving that to be bullSh&t |

Look back though ...all the cup winners seem to have both ...there are cup losers who did too but they lost to teams with both a 1C and 1D
Teams have won without but only against teams who didn’t have both ...so basically you don’t need a 1C and 1D to win a cup if you get lucky enough to play another team that doesn’t have it as well ...but if they do your poop outta luck
