Either way - its impressive that they've made it this far without both and they've bull dozed through LA, SJ and the Jets (all teams that do)
Point is a lot of people argue having a 1C and 1D is a must and they've clearly proving that to be bullSh&t - Brooks_Light
Karllson is a 1c. He's a Selke finalist and scored 40 goals. |

Well if we are going to praise the man for things he didn’t fully do why can’t we criticize him for things he did fully do ?
Traded a 4th rounder for Dustin penner
Traded Matthieu Perrault for a 4th and John mitchel
Traded a 2nd and Cody Eakin for a coked out mike ribeiro
Traded a first rounder for Troy Brouwer
Can’t really give him credit for drafting Ovie ...or backstrom
He did turn Varlamov into Forsberg ...but then screwed thst up
John Carlson pick was a good trade
Kuznetsov and burakovski were good pics too
Drafted Holtby
I’m just not convinced that he is some genius here ...you give any GM enough time they will find a way to look both good and bad - Redmile247
Of course you can, I do it to Benning all the time (bust his balls for doing stupid poop). Despite my distain for Benning he has done some good things in Vancouver, just more bad than good IMO..
The opposite is true with McPhee, again, IMO, more good than bad. You can give him credit for drafting OV and Backstrom, because that was their plan, to reset the franchise and build through the draft, unlike Mr. Benning. |

Best thing that ever came about for the owners, they're all rich because of him! Before he took office you could buy a team for 30 million, now you can have your very own for 600 million to upwards of 1 billion |

I havn't watched the playoffs except a bit of the jets knights series, this league doesn't get me excited anymore, I would rather go watch 10 year olds playing for fun |

After 2011 I had enough and I just watch it with a grain of salt sort of speak. |

When it happens once in a blue moon doesn't make it normal. Every other year probably since the lockout, teams have had a 1C and a 1D.
Pittsburgh has proven capable defenders with a lot of high end forwards can get the job done if you have a seriously good goaltender. |

All the Canadian teams are run like crap by design and now that the jets are a threat and in cap trouble I see a series of bad moves coming and gifting American teams good players, we have become farm teams for American based teams. |

Seems like teams with a stud D and 1C typically win while the teams without those end up just finalist

umm no....it's not. Washington planned to tank their team and rebuild through the draft, yes jumping from 3rd to 1st helped in 2004 obviously but they had a plan. Three 1st round picks in 04, two 2nd round picks and two 3rd round picks.
04-05-06 they picked 12 times in the first two rounds, including seven times in the 1st round. There's your difference. An actual rebuild. Not to mention some great drafting late in the first round picking guys like Kuznetsov, Mike Green, Varlamov, Carlson, Johansson, Burakovsky.
Benning tried to compete for the past five years and failed, he doesn't appear to have a plan? |

Pre salary cap it was very easy to do this ....teams were more than willing to trade picks and prospects to obtain players ....nowadays with the cap it’s not as easy
I get you want Benning go trade more for picks rather than keep assets who won’t be around when the Canucks are playoff regulars ...but I just don’t think it’s as simple as it used to be

And chirelli was hired to frank up the oilers and force mcdavid to ask for a trade to a big market when I watch games its alone because none of my teammates and friends quit watching whats a penalty, whats worthy of a suspension, what what what there is so much wrong with this league and it rivals bowling for popularity in the states how is that for a rant I would like to hear that brett Connolly won a cup though a friend of mine coached him and his brother in minor hockey and he thought josh was more skilled than brett but brett had the will. |
