Didn't miss anything. The Wilson hit is another league from what Marchessault did to Oshie. - Sheng.Peng
I think Wilson wanted to "send a message" -- as outdated as it might be -- to Vegas stars to keep their head up with him around.
First off love your work Shpenger, but this is in no way an outdated message as you put it, and our entire Golden Nuggets squad should keep their heads up at all times regardless of who is on the ice for the opposing team. |

There are several players in the league who could benefit from this. However the game is played at such a high rate of speed today that every time someone is hit people on the interwebs forgo any sort of objectivity or critical thinking, and simply react as social media has trained them to do.
Lets not wrap the players in bubble wrap just quite yet. Sure Wilson is a dirty (frank)er, however as you put it Marchessault needs to keep his head on a swivel. Especially given the fact it's game 1 of the cup finals. The hit really wasn't that bad, and given Wilso's track record it was an improvement upon his past transgressions. - Confidenceking77
Not in any way suggesting to take hitting out of the game. There are umpteen opportunities in a game to take the body and play physical. Skating by and not hitting a player that is vulnerable will not take hitting out of the game. Wilson had plenty of time to pull up and pass that hit by.

But why would he? He saw an opportunity to make a hard hit on a skilled player and as has been stated, was smart about not hitting the head, and he followed through with the hit. You act as if this is 100% a gentlemen's game but it isn't. Not now, not at any point in its history nor its future. There are always going to be players that seek to hurt and play 99% of their game with ill intent towards the opposition. Some are cowardly and will go after knees or heads or board players, others will just as soon as pancake someone in open ice. I'm not a Caps fan but I can see he was trying to take Marche out of the game with that hit and he did. I'm sure he was hoping that it would take him out longer, but even when he plays tonight he might have a little distraction creep into his game, and if so then the hit was well worth it - advantage gained. There's a difference between playing physical and playing nasty, and everyone wants to have a little nasty on their team. |

Simply because the player is in a vulnerable position and not able to protect himself. Your comment that I think this is 100% a gentleman's game is asinine and shows that you have not completely followed my comments. The purpose for hitting is to separate a player from the puck or to force a player into making an error. That is in the spirit of the game and competition. Any hit with the intent to hurt or take a player out has no place in the game and is exactly how the culture of the NHL needs to change from how it was in the past.

As those in the east know, Wilson is a dirty fvcker who enjoys hurting people. He wasn't sending a message, he was trying to take out your best player. Pure scumbag. |

Your comment that you think the purpose for hitting is only to separate a player from the puck is asinine. Growing up, that is what you are told and taught, and anything otherwise at high school or below is totally unacceptable. Choose not to accept reality, that's on you, but to try and hold professional hockey players to the standard of the "spirit of the game" is much more than asinine. Save the spirit for the regular season, leave the war of attrition as it is. And after 100 years, if this game changes to only allow hits to dislodge a puck carrier from the puck then it will have no semblance of the professional game we love and watch today, instead it will look like women's hockey, and while it is still hockey and I will watch, it is not something that I would set my DVR or spend hard earned money on. Maybe they should start calling penalties for "hard" hits since taking the right angle with a lesser physical impact will result in the separation as well. and give everyone a participation trophy while they're at it... |

You're not following along very well. This is the second time you have misrepresented my position. You just don't get it and I'll leave it at that.
