Looking at Ottawa's roster and was kind of shocked that they have 11 players signed for next season and only 3 players signed the year after that. Only 3. And they are 30, 31 and 36 years old. Seems like they may be a team that could be willing to take on a player with a longer contract like ROR or Okposo. They also have no defenseman signed past next season.

Maybe they are just trying to clean house so they can move to Quebec City a little easier.

Agreed. Johnson was a below average backup and Lehner was a below average starter. This is partially due to the system this team was asked to play, where if the players aren't smart or athletic enough, they can't backcheck fast enough to protect the goalie. Which happened way too often. However, it's the way Phil and Bott want this team to play, and it's what they want to turn the team into. Last year was all about implementing a system where they could see who could thrive and who would fail. DD hid some of the flaws by playing a more conservative system that allowed lumpy slow turds to blend in.

Anyways, sidetracked, with better defensemen comes a better sv% and more scoring comes more wins.

I get the pessimism, but we all saw/heard what Sexton said on the radio the other day. There must be change. He specifically chose the word "external". This team will change. Guaranteed.

The insiders like Bob, Dredger and Freidman are typically pretty honest about what they hear about from the Sabres and around the league in general. They're not afraid to talk about how quiet it is sometimes. But all three have been talking about in length how active JB is. Someone or more is getting traded. It's a when, not an if.

I agree with you in that I don't think we make any trades to get us back into the 1st. I think Bott wants players that will help now for O'reilly so that trade can happen after we pay O'reilly's bonus on 7/1 and his worth is more. As for UFAs and goalies, I think we have to add 2 or 3 players to bolster the lineup. As is isn't working
