From last blog about asking for 9th overall, 28th overall and Chris Kreider for Ryan O'Reilly....
Dream big, cowboy - TheSabresTaco
Trying! haha
We are really at a power position, take it like this....
For Rick Nash they got..
Ryan Spooner and Matt Beleskey, 2018 first-round pick, Ryan Lindgren, 2019 7th round pick
That is for an aging winger (33 years old ) on an expiring contract.
So I would be asking for that 1st rounder (above),
Spooner ~= Kreider.
Spooner 59games 41 points
Kreider is 58 games, 37 points
So I am asking for a + of 9th overall which is not totally crazy (over what Rick Nash's value was on expiring contract).
Doubt it happens, but thats what I would want from them. |

Nice write up, Pach. I like both Ullmark and UPL. Johansson is a wild card, but hope he does well in Roch. I wouldn't use pick 94 on a goalie though. Take a flyer in the 7th or wait til next year. Although like you said, they haven't taken a ton of goalies, taking UPL in the second last year was a significant move. I think they can afford to either take one very late, or not at all this year |

Heard we are really into Grubauer, not sure if you wait until FA or have to pony up something for him. |

Andrew Allens job should be in jeopardy.
When was the last time a goalie that the Sabres drafted became successful at the NHL level.
Not blaming it all on Allen but for the accolades heard on how good of a goalie coach he is I haven't seen results. |

What happened to that goalie from the jets trade? Are we really only left with Bogo from that?
Edit: Kasdorf |

Even when we had Irbe, it's now like we were producing a ton of talent. |

I’m confused, is his value up because his music career is on the brink of exploding with success, or because he wins face offs? |

What the (frank) did you just say about Ryan (frank)ing O'Reilly? Say it one more time and I will rip your (frank)ing heart out |

Kasdorf was a very promising goalie prospect.
A severe shoulder injury really hampered his career, and he was over-played at RPI to make it even worse.

Those engineering schools really filter out the weak.
From RPI to RIP, I though him and Joel ward would be the answers. |

He went 5-20 in the ECHL in 2016-2017 with a 3.96 GAA and a .877 S%.
In 2017-2018 in the ECHL he went 13-11 with a 3.04 GAA and a .903 S%.
He is a RFA right now.
I think it is easy to see that Ullmark, UEL, and even Johansson are sought of more highly than he is with UEL and Johansson likely being our Rochester goalies this year. |

His value is more because he is under contract for 5 more years, 28 years old (5 years younger), plays center (a position that typically carries more trade value).
Edit: Nash has 34 points this year, O'Reilly had 61. I think it would be worth the extra pick, but like I said, doubt it happens. Draft picks are a gamble, and trading them for a current NHL player is why you get so much. |

was on the fence as well with the fourth-rounder...
depends upon their board, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did take on there |

I had never heard of this injury... interesting.
He was a beast at RPI. If I remember right he had a huge consecutive start streak just like that Cal Peterson did. |

in looking at buffalo's goalie picks up until he was hire din 2015, it's really not too surprising |

After watching Darcy take Grigorenko and Girgensons out of desperation for centers, and GMTM trading prospects based on what he perceived as surplus positions, I'm pretty done with the idea of drafting based on need. Whatever they do, I hope they go straight BPA |

As we know drafting a goalie means he wont be here for 6+ years, especially after the 2nd round. If anything you try to sign goalies for 1-2 years until UPL is ready. I think drafting another goalie in the 2nd round this year is not a good look. Or trade a 4th rounder for RFA rights to a goalie or with a low number of years left. |

I understand that, the market has raised his perceived value.
Let’s pull the reigns in on these returns. None of that will happen.

It was his glove shoulder.
They tried to make him play through it because he was literally the only thing keeping RPI in games.
He never looked the same again.
I graduated from RPI and saw every single of his home starts and many of his road starts as well.
When the sabres got him i was very happy, and then it all came down for him it's sad how injuries can do that |

Right, so that means we dont trade him. Not against the wall to trade him. |
