From last blog about asking for 9th overall, 28th overall and Chris Kreider for Ryan O'Reilly....
Trying! haha
We are really at a power position, take it like this....
For Rick Nash they got..
Ryan Spooner and Matt Beleskey, 2018 first-round pick, Ryan Lindgren, 2019 7th round pick
That is for an aging winger (33 years old ) on an expiring contract.
So I would be asking for that 1st rounder (above),
Spooner ~= Kreider.
Spooner 59games 41 points
Kreider is 58 games, 37 points
So I am asking for a + of 9th overall which is not totally crazy (over what Rick Nash's value was on expiring contract).
Doubt it happens, but thats what I would want from them. - Lilroot9
To be fair, he does have about a .60 PPG average but his best seasons were 49 pts in 80 games and 39 pts in 78 games. 13 goals in a season is his career high. He is an RFA making 2.85M
Would we just plug that in at 2C until Casey was ready? What kind of deal would he even get then... like a 3 year 4M AAV? Is that worth it? Maybe.
On Kreider,
Big boy LWer with 3 straight 21-28 goal seasons before injuries cut this past year short at 16 goals in 58 games. Solid top 6 contributer, not sure if he would ever get to the top notch 1LW tier. Makes 4.6M AAV for 2 more years. I wouldn't want to have to pay him 6-7M AAV after that deal.
9th overall and Kreider is where I'd start that discussion. Maybe even 9th and 32OA could move up a little?

Andrew Allens job should be in jeopardy.
When was the last time a goalie that the Sabres drafted became successful at the NHL level.
Not blaming it all on Allen but for the accolades heard on how good of a goalie coach he is I haven't seen results. - Goalieguy43
you have to go back to Miller and Biron unless you are willing to count Enroth..

Are you forgetting he was here during the tank years. Lindback, Neuvirth and even Johnson had great stats because of Irbe ?
I'd take Irbe back in a heartbeat. - Goalieguy43
Irbe seemed to get a lot more out of goalies.. look at all these guys on a crappy team that never really produced anywhere outside of buffalo.. Lindback and Neuvirth both looked pretty good for stretches and Enroth had some solid time. none of these guys could really reproduce that once they left
in looking at buffalo's goalie picks up until he was hire din 2015, it's really not too surprising - Michael Pachla
If I recall Irbe left the Sabres when Nolan left. I think Lehner could have been handled better.
All of Lehners problems including his temperament could have been coached better. Unless Allen was coaching Lehner on positioning and use of his glove and covering pucks and especially break aways and Lehner refused to listen I think Allen failed.
fair fair.... is this pure talent evaluation or are you taking contract situations into play too if I may ask? - JVince11
that list is all talent/age/durability related, nothing to do with contracts.
I find it crazy where Skinner is at now when 3ish years ago he was practically untradable due to concussion concerns and a huge drop in play. 14-15 he had 18G 13A 31P in 77GP, Girgensons had 30P in 61GP that year.

irbe did bolt when Nolan was fired...too bad...he did a fine job
