Part of me didn't care if he left... I thought the 11 million 8 year deal was a little too much of a cap hit.

But now that I see all the Leaf's media, fans, etc.. I want him back just out of spite.

Not to be tardphobic or anything, but I think I enjoyed this update....

But..... there must be some way this offends my sensibilities.

BRB, gonna go ask my boyz over at the other forum, return and whine, and then disappear.

That'll teach 'em.

I havent gotten a good nights sleep in a week. I think I will be more insulted and embarrassed more than anything else if he leaves. As a fan, from the hiring of Lou, the hiring of Trotz, to a great draft, He could of made every Islander fan rest easy if he just stayed. Unfortunately, if he leaves, it takes away from all those positives, I dont care what anyone says, it will be absolutely a kick in the god damn nuts if he leaves.

Organizations been kicking him in the nuts for 9 years

I think he's giving Lou the courtesy of a seat at a table

Honestly, If it was still Garth Snow and Doug Weight, Are the Islanders even a consideration? Are they even getting a meeting?

I think Lou was brought in to get that seat back. I think we were out of it before he came in.

Lou doesn’t take this job without some assurances from Tavares and his camp. Read guys, JT will be an Islander for a long time.

Have to say this one has been more fun than the Stamkos one so far. The Doughty event should be a good time too.

He is staying put - 8 year max deal on a team who has the pieces for him well into his 30's. Letting other teams get a whiff is just ensuring Lou does what he hates and breaks out the max deals

Interesting to see what happens. Tavares is a quality individual, seems loyal and committed to the Islanders, that might be enough to get him signed. From a hockey standpoint I don't see the Islanders as playoff team let alone a contender even with Tavares. No goalie at the moment and I wouldn't say their defence is top tier. Have they even broken ground on a new building yet? Getting Lou and Barry Trotz is a positive, but there are better teams ready to sign Tavares now and go after the Cup. I look at the Islanders and it's a lot of "this has to happen", "we need this", "well this hasn't happened yet but it will". Tavares is 28 this season, I think the meetings mean more than simply being a negotiation tactic with Lou but who knows?

IF this is true and He feels Kicked in the Nuts for 9 years.... AND the Isles just made every move they could to improve things.... THEN he was always leaving, in which case he Screwed us all and was always leaving..... So, He could have left and allowed the team and fans to move on with a return value OR at the very least let it be known last year so they could make moves accordingly...

IF this guy leaves at this point he's the most hated Pro Player of my Lifetime and I think he's a Giant Turd....

This entire process is a load of BS.....

the building is on track to finish the environmental assessment around the end of this year, then the work is estimated to begin in march. It's not that far out.

they're playing half their home games this season at renovated nvmc, which is something the players were happy to hear. That could increase the following year until the new building is ready

I can't say if Tavares will stay or go elsewhere. I'd like to believe he'd see that adding Lou and Trotz shows that Malkin is all in on turning this franchise around, but it's hard to know if the last 9 years of snow/capuano/weight/charles wang has done too much damage.

Last year in particular Snow traded hamonic for picks that could have been used to improve the team during the 4 months he sat back and watched them freefall from the top of the metro to one of the worst in the league. He could have replaced weight and given them a legitimate head coach that would have changed the system to play a more defensive style.

You could see the frustration on JT's face for the last month of the season in particular, and that inaction from snow could easily have put JT over the edge as far as deciding to walk away. After all the garbage they've surrounded him with for 9 years, I wouldn't be able to blame him if he did leave. This isn't just JT giving the Isles one more chance - this is him committing to where he's going to play the rest of his career. It's not a light decision. What if he signs with the Isles and Malkin decides he's spent enough money and enforces an internal cap? We've seen Isles owners do that before. It's incredibly unlikely but this is also the first time we've seen an Isles owner step up in...ever?

we'll find out soon.

Hey BD, I have watched all the naysayers on you, but I must say this is one of the best blogs I have read on the whole JT saga, I hope you keep up this kind of writing, as far as the rumor stuff, leave that to Ek, we all know as I'm sure you do that Lou says nothing and will not allow staff to either, so we move on, from here, with (hopefully) or without JT.

I totally get this, Mats Sundin did this to us a number of years ago and it feels like a betrayal of sorts. I do think JT signs with you guys though, it seems to me he is just trying to get the best deal, I honestly hope he doesn't sign with the leafs, not that I wouldn't love to have him as he is an elite player but the cap hell that would create would not be fun.

Your comment above about the picks from the Harmonic trade are pretty spot on. That would have meant this past draft wouldn't have been as good, & who do you think Garth could have traded for with those picks?

I've said this in here that Garth did some really good things but never took the next step everyone was waiting for.

Maybe the plan was to get the team to a place it's at now with a very promising group moving forward - still missing pieces but has lots of potential. Maybe Tavares was going to be collateral damage with the long term plan? Or he signs with the cupboards well stacked moving forward.
