I don't know Simmonds personally, but I don't think he wants to leave the Philly area, especially with all his work in the community. But you have to think about your future and deserves to get paid.

Sounds reasonable. He’s also a name and probably the most dangerous player in the league in the crease. He’s gonna get paid no matter where he goes, and there is no undervaluing what he has to offer.

Yeah, but that doesn't happen. Most of them submit them with at least a week to go in the season. The more correct phrasing of what actually happens would be "writers must submit ballots by the end of the regular season." Bill had a big write-up about it a while back, as he was a former member of the PWHA.

I don't really care if that "changes people's tunes" or not, and I doubt he does. All I want them to do is win the Cup, personal awards are secondary.

We were talking nominations, not awards. Really it is the respect level that I would like to see change. If winning a cup doesn’t do that, nothing will.

Yes, 4 years ago when he was a top 3 scorer. I think he finished 3rd on the nominations. Boy, they went out on a limb to show respect.

What do YOU want in return for Simmonds?

I don't think the Leafs and Flyers match up well. Leafs really need defense more than Simmonds. Flyers also need defense or 3C at the NHL level. Leafs would not give up Kadri for Simmonds, so you'd be looking at prospects.

I'd love Kapanen in the package, as he is most nhl-ready. Leafs might be inclined to include him, but the Flyers would need more. Timashov or Johnsson have lots of upside, but are LW is where we're stacked. I don't like any of their other forward prospects (maybe Gauthier?). So maybe Kapanen, Johnnson and a 2nd rounder would be fair.

The bigger question is, does Simmonds bring back as much as Schenn, more, or less?

Yeah, if he struggles early on it will severely effect his value. I expect him to come out on fire to start the season... if his body allows him to. Tough spot to be in for Hexy.
