Haven’t read much about that specific Tavares crowd in here. Much of the debate was if the flyers should even have interest in him, most fans in here I believe would have passed on him but apparently the flyers disagreed with that |

Could a Simmonds for Panarin swap make sense? Could trade 2 guys that possibly wont re-sign where they currently are. |

I saw that Ek rumour the other day about Panarin and the Flyers....I mean any team looking to add young talent are going to try and poach the teams that have it...ie the Flyers.
While I agree he would be a great addition, I can’t see Konecny going anywhere. You don’t trade guys like Konecny at this age.
It’s also nice to hear the next group of goalie prospects is already starting to develop. I really like the Flyers odds of hitting on one of the current group, it’s nice to know there might be some more enticing guys coming as well in the next few years. |

Maybe....but I think they are in different situations....I think Simmonds really wants to be here...but the Flyers May have an issue with term.

Re: Panarin for Simmonds
Why would Columbus for that? We would need to throw in at least a high pick |

Did anyone else see that article on The Score this morning calling Giroux the biggest potential fantasy bust for next season?
I hope the doubters avoid him in the draft then I can face wash them with his point totals later!
Why the disrespect of Giroux? |

i see Panarin getting in the neighborhood of 8.5aav next year, especially if he puts up a year comparable to his first three seasons in the league.
As for Simmonds, I would go as high a 7aav but not for more than 3 years.
The most I would do at 4 years is 6aav
I would not give him 5 years.
i think in the end that will be the reason he doesn't come back here.

I think the Flyers May agree with you....term is going to be tough. Simmonds probably feels he deserves it....he has signed some pretty team friendly deals in philly.

I can't see Weal being successful as a Center in the NHL. I'd be shocked really.
I don't think Hextall wants to go past 3 years for Simmonds. I imagine Simmonds knows he can get 5 years from another club. I'm not sure if Hextall will meet him in the middle. |

if Simmonds breaks 30 goals and looks like his old self I think Hex will overpay for a shorter term. I do think Hex would go 7X4, I do think other teams will offer 7X5 or even 6.5X6

Pretty much how I see it. Taking Hextall's philosophy of building a team by concentrating on Goal, D and center and also factoring in that he just signed a 29 year old wing to a 5 year deal, I can't see him wanting to go more than 3 years, or maybe 4 at most with Simmonds. Simmonds and his agent have to pretty confident that there will be a GM somewhere willing to go 6 years and 36 million for him. Hextall isn't going to come close to that. I fully expect Simmonds to be dealt during the season. |

I didn't think Tavares needed to be a Flyer, for various reasons - the biggest is cap. But, there is no harm in kicking the tires. Frankly, that's what I've liked about the Flyers GM's over the years. It seems that none were afraid of reaching out and having the initial conversation. You never know where that might lead. |

First, I didn't even know there was such a thing. Second, you explained it very well and much better than I would have.

If I was Simmonds, I wouldn't sign anything less than a 5 year deal. I might be willing to take a little less in AAV. I'm not Simmonds obviously so we'll see. |

No. Columbus would want way more than that.
Read Bill's July 27, 2018 article here at HB for some excellent thoughts on this topic from a guy who knows what he's talking about. |

I think Hextall philosophy also takes into account the timeline to develop the positions. He first built a strong defensive core, which is gaining experience in the rebuilding years. The goalie, also needs luck to find and time to develop. The Centers/forwards are the last to draft because of the short development timing. The key is to have all three positions where you want them developmentally at the same time. It seems like they are getting close, but Simmonds might not fit the timeline. I see him being traded for a high pick to continue the youth movement... Maybe not this year, but back fill Simmonds spot (3W) with someone like Ratcliffe.

The Flyers would have to give more, which is more about how good Panarin is as opposed to saying Simmonds is bad/washed up/etc. |

I think that there were 2 reasons he didn't want to come to the Flyers. The biggest reason is that he was pretty set on playing for Toronto, he just wanted to explore some other options to make sure. Secondly, none of the teams on his list were in the Metro division, which may have been done out of politeness to the Islanders. |
