Yeah, and Kaiser's point is a lot of those people would love to have RNH, a first overall selection who's been the epitome of "meh". - Wetbandit1
I would like to have RNH on this team. He’s a quality top 6 forward. But alike Reinhart, leaves a lot to be desired when assessing other 1st overall picks. I like Reinhart, I’m sure every team in the league would take Reinhart. But I’m sure if they had to choose between Reinhart and other second overall picks in recent years (Svech, Patrick, Laine, Eichel) and other top 5 picks like Marner and Draisatil, he is maybe chosen over Patrick and that is all.

Here are two facts
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins isn’t living up to expectations
Sam Reinhart isn’t living up to expectations
Here’s two fairy tales living in your head
Everyone loves Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
Everyone hates Sam Reinhart - sbroads24
If it’s a fairy tale to watch commenters in this thread propose ways that the Sabres can acquire RNH’s six million dollar contract then Michael Pachla is one of the Brothers Grimm.

Mittelstadt and Dahlin are making >1M sans bonuses. If you’re gonna acquire large cap hits the time is now. Cross that bridge when you come to it. Scandella and his 4M can be moved. Pominville and Moulson come off the books next year. Sobotka, sheary, and bogosian the year after. Can ship Okposo to Ottawa in 2020 so they can hit the cap floor. The salary cap should not prohibit this team to make a trade that benefits the team if a reasonable trade can be had.
The first episode is pretty rough right now - gerbe75pts
That's how me and my wife felt for the first 2 episodes. But we stuck with it and it turned out to be one of our favorite shows ever (The Office being # 1). Keep with Parks and Rec ... you'll love Ron Swanson, but Tom is probably someone just like you.

I agree with everything you say.
But I don’t agree that RNH is the $6M player that best benefits the team.

Once Sam signs, this team will have less than 2m of cap space. That's effectively a cap team, since some space is needed for call ups. Another trade can certainly happen, but at this point, money in has to pretty much match money out. If Scandella is involved, you could make an RNH trade work out. It's much tougher to fit Kessel.
Any idea to which 3 players you’d like traded? - washedup20
We have a ton of players that can fill a bottom 6 spot on this roster next year. One of Bailey/Baptiste, one of Girgensons/Larsson, and one of Nylander/Guhle paired with the STL or SJS 1st rounder should be able to bring in another top 6 forward.

Perhaps that is the case. Maybe they have faith in McCabe to bounce back and one of Guhle/Pilut to make the opening day roster with Hunwick/Beaulieu as insurance.

Maybe. I have no insider knowledge, but moving a LD + Bailey/Baptiste would help balance the roster and avoid waiver problems.
