It's just how it is. Even great players(Kucherov, Pastrnak) didn't sign until the last minute.
It's like asking why there are never any offer-sheets, or how Chiarelli remains gainfully employed. - Wetbandit1
The longer it drags out the more I think they are working on a long term deal, which could be very good or very bad |

I don't know, I don't think anything should be read into it. It's so common for these guys to go right to the last minute and it goes from 1 year deals to long term. I can't think of any 8 year deals off the top of my head. Most top out around 5 years. |

Yeah that’s one thing I do trust him so far.
I think Pegula nailed it with both teams so far |

Yeah, there seems to be more 6 year deals than I remember, Rakell and Lindholm were also 6 years.
Edit: Pastrnak too. |

Those are pretty specific analogies.
Lots of great players sign early
Jack eichel for example |

It's always a waiting game. McDavid and Draisaitl pretty much locked in Eichel's value.
Sam, Nylander, and Larkin are still unsigned this year.

Yes , those spots are already filled on the Sabres with there 3 main stars.
Eichel
dahlin
Mitts
So this guy puts up 25 goals and 25 assists / alot on eichels line, so he's great?
Dudes good, and doesn't bring any intangibles, other then net front presence.
Not a gym guy
Not a try hard guy
Not an overachiever
As a fan, he's not particularly an exciting player to watch.

Just Curious,
What do you think it is that doesn't make Dahlin tough and not a penalty killer?(As per your reply) From what I heard he doesn't shy away from hitting and if he is going to be a Number 1 I would hope he would be at-least a decent penalty killer, even though he most likely will be better than decent.

Vanek wasn't exactly "fun" to watch except in the shootout or when he was sniping goals

So when an offensive player isn't scoring he is boring? And in other news water is wet. |

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Bills gave up a seventh-round pick in 2020 for Corey Coleman.
Seventh-round picks are not worth much to begin with, and that is doubly true for a pick which will not convey until 2020. The price both accentuates how good a move this was for Buffalo and how much Cleveland wanted to get rid of the 2016 first-round pick. Coleman is heading into arguably the worst passing game in the league, but he should see more targets than he would have with the Browns.

Coleman was virtually free. I'd take Marquise Goodwin for free any day. I was disappointed we let him walk, but I also realized we didn't come close to utilizing his skill set.
Another great Beane trade/move. They sat through camp, watched the mediocrity and pulled the trigger on a largely undervalued asset. Good for them. And good for us.
Edit: A 7th in two years is basically a UDFA so it was free |

Well boss was saying he thinks Reinhart is boring. Vanek was one of my favorites, but he wasn't exactly fun to watch in the way Eichel is. |

If Boss, or anyone else for that matter, thinks Samson is boring it's because he lacks the analytical, perceptual and cognitive abilities to understand a masterpiece of such splendor. |

The good teams are always able to maximize their return on investment. The Blackhawks got Keith signed for $4.5M on a 12 year deal and that allowed them to keep the core around for as long as they did and win 3 Stanley Cups. Perhaps Reinhart signing long term now can prove to be a discount in the future as long as his performance relates to the second half of last season. |

Yes. The New Jersey Devils won the SC playing the trap. Your entertainment has no baring on the game. Furthermore, if you talk smack about Rhino again, I will be forced to cut you. Cutting Sabres fans is something I absolutely abhor, so if you could play nice, it would best for all parties concerned.

Thing is, if Dahlin and Mittelstadt are as good as advertised, it removes the need for Sam to be a star.
He can be who he is and be very valuable to us.
It was different a year ago when it was evident we lacked an additional star player to Eichel - sbroads24
the bigger point, which everyone overlooks
sam was a top 20 scorer in the nhl for the second half in his 3rd season
we have no clue what his ceiling is
his floor seems to be 20 goals and 45 points if played consistently on the second line
probably 55 points if given top line minutes |
