I believe the silence has nothing to do with the negotiations going underground. Most front offices leak like a sieve and if one or two teams are talking to Ottawa about Karlsson other teams know the nature of the offers and discussion.
If there is no chatter it is because: there are no discussions taking place and alternatives to a trade are being considered or a deal has already been locked down between two teams and we are waiting on protected negations between the player and probable new team.
Other than for Edmonton I do not see a team that can compete with any of the several different offers that Yzerman can structure.
I believe Karlsson will be traded. I also believe that Melnyk is on the verge of selling the team. I think these two factors are butting up against one another at this time. |

Not bad. Hitting bottom is really about direction and a choice for down is, in fact, the right direction.
William James in Varities....(1902) wrote about transformative experience. He said something along the lines that you have to journey to the deepest darkest point of the pit and at the deepest darkness the light will break through from below. |

Renting during a rebuild... What a bold strategy. |

or maybe they just won't be able to dig themselves out of the hole they've made.
but it could be your thing too, with light coming from below. |

Yes, transformative change requires renewal to the extent that it changes the character of the agent.
James was a psychiatrist and the light for him was either psychological insight or spiritual renewal...he thought they were pretty much the same thing.
This is why I am so insistent about the only change that really matters is change of ownership. |

How on earth do the Flames get that deal done when TB couldn't? Please EK, please tell me how this makes a lick of sense, especially given the Flames current and future cap restrictions. |

See there’s this thing called trading that occurs. It’s where one team (say Ottawa) trades a player (say Karlsson) to another team (say Calgary) for players who also make salary (say Brodie, Bennett, Stone etc).
That’s how you fit in a guy making 6.5 mill this year despite your “cap restrictions”.
I don’t think anyone thinks Karlsson will be traded for jerseys and pucks.
Absolutely any team in the league can fit Karlsson onto their roster this year if they trade players back who make more than 6.5 mill. Consider your statements before making them please. |

Not that I want to give up the assets it would take to rent or sign, but YEAH...What Rino said!!! |

We have Gio, Hamonic, Brodie and just made a big deal for Hanifin.
In the pipeline is a super promising star in Valimaki, and 2 high end potentials in Andersson and Kylington. This trade makes absolutely no sense for the flames...
I’d say Gio and a top-6 forward would be heading out if anything was to happen... which I doubt since that would disrupt the entire defensive lineups. |

Agree Flames could never get EK extended but as a rental for a full year, one of Hamonic or Brodie go back the other way & they have an extra year at attractive cap hits than EK. Then a bluechip prospect like maybe Kyllington & probably a 2019 1st rounder. Its a reasonable offer for a 1 year rental. Some other team might beat it but pretty tough to give up too many futures on a 1 year rental, why its August & EK hasnt been traded yet. |

I THINK W. KARLSSON WILL HAVE A GOOD YEAR BUT NOT NEARLY AS GOOD AS LAST YEAR. HIS AVERAGE SHOOTING % IS 14% PER HIS LAST 3 YEARS OF PLAY, EXCLUDING HIS CUP OF COFFEE OF 21 GAMES IN HIS FIRST SEASON. HE AVERAGES 129 SHOTS OVER THAT TIME AND WITH A 14% SHOOTING %, HE WOULD BE RIGHT AROUND 20 GOALS OVER AN 82 GAME SEASON AVERAGING 129 SHOTS. ILL GIVE HIM A BUMP SINCE HE IS PLAYING WITH REALLY GOOD TALENT ON THE WINGS SO I'D SAY AROUND 25 GOALS AND MAYBE 50-55 POINTS. |

This is exactly it (minus the flames will not be able to extend him part) Flames can and will find cap for him. For a player of EK’s talent a team will always make it happen. The only hold up for everyone is the keeper vs rental scenario. Flames (and every other team bidding) have the pcs to make it happen but do you want to give up a guy like valamaki for a one year rental? How desperate is Treliving to keep his job? Underperforming team last few years have the city and I assume ownership frustrated. At the same time how do you structure the trade? Does Treliving offer up bottoms tier salary like frolik and stone a good prospect to get the deal done? Or does he offer more substance cap back like Brodie or hanafin etc... |

Erik Karlsson is a super competitive athlete. More than anything else he wants to win. He is also a great team mate. There is a very high probability that he would resign with any contending team.
Pretty sure any team that deals for him is going to be highly confidendent of being able to get a deal done. |

You realize he has been over 60 points for the last three seasons right? What a ridiculous take to say that he will somehow drop below his historical point production when he is coming back in better health than last season. |
