That's really hard to read, but yeah, Aquilini has always wanted playoffs, so they tried with UFA signings and trades. Nothing worked beyond the first year so they accepted reality every February and tanked. Which is how they built a nice prospect pool.
Linden does some modelling of successful rebuilds and pitches it to Francesco, which obviously didn't go over well - LeftCoaster

I am assuming the Pres got fired because probably after 4 years when his best friends retired he went up to the owner and probably said lets rebuild now . I would have fired him too - VANTEL
Yeah Aquilini wants no part of a year long rebuild imo. He wants playoffs and if it goes for poop tank in February for a good pick. Rinse and repeat. |

Yup, we could all see that, but Linden couldn't, he got what he deserved. |

Trev was a scape goat in a no win situation.
Doesn’t matter if he had the credentials or not.
FA is & always has been a problem granted he does spend but thats a small part of winning. |

I think you are out to lunch with your ranting but WTH. Benning even said a few days ago they are not expecting playoffs this year , but don't let the facts get in the way of a good rant. |

For the record at the last two drafts I have seen the draft table and it was the GM and his scouting staff calling the shots not the owner or president. - VANTEL
Didn't see the text trevor sent Benning immediately before Benning made the picks did you? The one telling him who to take. Benning only made the pick in his first year.... that's how we ended up with virtanen and McCann. All hail lord Linden. |

If Benning continues to fail he'll eventually get the same fate as Linden. Aquilini has no interest in being non competitive at the start of any season.
Rebuilds, from an owner perspective, I'm guessing, are a very hard pill to swallow. |

Yup. FA doesn’t care much for state of the union proclamations 😂😂
Hired & fired Trev is as much on FA as its on anyone & even more. |

Bening will be fired before or after the draft no matter how we do, unless we make the playoffs. |

Yeah that's the first time I've heard him say that. First time. Just because he says it this year doesn't take away from the fact he's tried every year to make them. |

How many other GMs Presidents or owners of other teams have come out in the last decade and said we are really hoping to suck this year we want a high draft pick? |

Bring back McCaw. Absentee owner aside at least he stayed out of the way. We had much more talent in the NHL during his time. FA rode his wave & look where he led us to. |

I think Aquilini just got tired of Linden as well, he wanted complete control and he's seems like a high maintenance kinda guy. Word is he got pretty tired of Linden threatening to quit if he didn't get his own way all the time. |

didn't Linden say a couple seasons ago, we owed it to the Sedins to try to make the playoffs?
FA tweeted about a rebuild but I'm not sure what his definition is or when he believed it started.
How long has Linden been saying rebuild?
so much speculation on the direction behind the scenes and what is put forward publicly to the fanbase. reporters appear to not know any more than us - hillbillydeluxe
That article makes it seem like Linden was doing everything while Benning was off having a wank.
It also completely ignores the whole Boston model, get back into the playoffs, fill the age gap philosophy of this management group’s first few years. Linden couldn’t even utter the word “rebuild” until last off season.
Maybe ownership simply got tired of Linden changing the goalposts all the time to mirror which ever teams had been successful the season before. I know we were all sick of it. |

Linden was hired to be a scapegoat. He knew what he was getting into. He’s not an idiot. It said scapegoat on his name tag. |

Anyways, Canucks have two really highend prospects and some nice "B" level prospects so hopefully it all works out in the end. Just gotta let it takes its course and see what happens. |

Naslund broken leg nope.
MG spent & what did that get us?
President trophys & the mess we are in now. Trading picks at the TDL back fired HUGE. Canning Burke & AV was the beginning of the slippery slope. |
