The trades you are referencing involved giving up a young star goaltender and and a first overall pick. The Sedins trade was a huge win but the others not so much. Poor analogy.

You don't think the Luongo to Vancouver, Horvat and Ehrhoff trades were wins?

Take a peak at what Corey Schneider's been doing.

Oh, and he's 32 years old. Same age as old ass Edler, Eriksson and Beagle.

Meanwhile the Canucks have a passable #1 C. Goalies have (frank) all for trade value at the best of times these days and Gillis got a 9th overall pick for one.

I don’t think it’s that poor of an anology. I think in all three cases the GMs make something out of nothing. The excuse by JB apologists is that he doesn’t have anything to work with or a trading partner willing to engage.

A good GM should be able to turn a turd into gold. I’m patiently waiting for JB to find his gold from the turds he’s been left.

He's made some good trades. Its just that he squandered the assets he got in those trades in bad trade.

Garrison and Bieksa returned a pair of 2nd round picks. Not bad for guys who can't play. Kesler got a first, Bonino and Sbisa in a tough spot.

But then he turned one of those seconds into Linden Vey, the other went with Clending (Forsling trade, blech) and Bonino for Sutter. The first ended up going in the Gudbranson trade.

His best trade at this point is either a 2nd for Baertschi, Holm for Leipsic or Shinkaruk for Granlund. Nothing more than a slap single at best in there.

The team is terrible, but can you imagine how bleak things would be if Horvat wasn't in the fold?

I expect him to be at the top of the fitness tests this year. His work ethic is insane.

I left it off because Dahlen hasn't played an NHL game and could go the way of Rodin pt 1 or Shirokov and it would suck but not be terribly surprising.

I'd say probably Goldobin, saw an article recently saying he was the most productive Canuck when playing on the top 2 lines.

I read a few articles that say he is a underrated playmaker on the canucks when playing top 6 minutes. It was a semi analytical article suggesting he can produce when given the opportunity and will need to in the sedin absence. I will try and find the article later

I think he can hit 20 goals this year playing in the top 6.

Greetings,

With chatter about contract talks for Boeser happening next week, he's the focus of today's new blog, with tidbits on Juolevi and Leipsic also thrown in for good measure:

- Nucker101

It wasn’t at the time. Not even close. Schneider was an elite goaltender

how many goalies have brought in higher returns in the cap era?

And weren't you usually among the crowd who mocked the people who judge trades during the day they occur? I remember it during the uproar of some of Benning's early moves.

I thought you believed in evaluating trades after a couple of years?

With a career high games played of 33 at age 27 when the team still had a future HOF goaltender in net.

And a goalie returning a first round pick is no small feat. Especially at the draft when picks are at their most expensive because you actually know what the pick is.

Burke has the trade for twins.
Nonis has the luongo trade.
MG has Ehrhoff and Horvat.

All trades that made a difference.

Jim’s would be... Sutter, Gudbranson?
