Pretty hefty signing for Ellis.
He’s worth it, but I wonder how long the Preds can keep that D core together? - dbot
At least the Canucks have Gaunce. |

You know, I can’t be pissed at the leafs for winning a cup just because my team can’t figure it out in the same amount of time. |

you may be right.
Considering how bad the leafs have been and how (frank)ed up their front office has been there is no excuse for them to win another cup before the Canucks do. Ten years ago I would have said that was an impossibility. |

No matter how poorly the Canucks are managed, I can still hate the Leafs for winning the cup. Easily. The Leafs and their leg-humping fans who need constant validation. Hate. |

If the team wins the cup that's one thing, but i don't have to log on daily to read the garbage that will ensue. Even during our best years the games against the Leafs at home were challenging as a fan having blue kool-aid all around you. |

I am not sold on Hughes as a potential #1, maybe a 4/5 guy, Dobson I see as a future #1, at worst a #2.
Just my opinion though. - Reubenkincade

I’ve almost been on here for 7 years and for the first 3 years I was camped in the leafs thread. I used to feed off their passion so if was fun.
You can’t take their patriotism too seriously because it will drive you nuts. Just like that unjustified American patriotism. |

I think you answered your own question about Quinn Hughes and Noah Dobson. "types of players".
I don't see Dobson being a true number #1 personally. I also don't see Hughes as a #1 either.
Hughes will probably put up more points then Dobson will. Dobson will probably have a more rounded out defensive game then Hughes ever will.
Vancouver needs both players but could only draft 1.
The reason i disliked the pick was because JB has been talking about a RHD for so long. There doesn't project to be many real good RHD next season. Quite a few LHD again though.
We all know what the depth chart looks like in Vancouver about 15 guys on the left and 2 on the right. - manvanfan
Hughes to me is looking a lot like Krug, Klingberg and Werenski. Going to have huge offensive upside but will need to be paired with a very steady defensive presence. Luckily, we really do have to prefect pairing with Tanev for his "rover" playing style. |

In terms of "size" comparables for Hughes, Klingberg and Werenski are probably not a match
Krug doesn't quite have the speed that Hughes does. Ghostisbehere is a close comparison. Tyson Barrie was left off NHL top 20 defensemen list because his offence is awesome but his defence is still not great.
The same can be said with the so called best defensemen in the world. He was so much better when he played with Methot.
I think Hughes turns into Ryan Ellis but with speed. |

Sekera out indefinitely! JB got's a taker for DP or BH. Conditional 3rd or if they make the 2nd round it becomes a 2nd. |

Dobson would have been an OJ scenario again. "woohoo, we drafted a #3 defenceman"
Hughes was a swing for the fences. Maybe he's Letang, Dan Boyle or Brian Campbell, maybe he's just Krug (fine offensive player but I don't understand this fascination with him like he's elite) or maybe he's Johhny Oduya. If he maxes out as a second pair guy, that's fine since he could have been more. Dobson likely won't ever be someone who pushes pace, controls play or is any kind of a game breaker.
As for a RH thing, yeah. As long as the plan seems to be EP on one wall and BB on the other, they need a RH shot up top. A lefty is going to be the same issue that Garrison and Edler have been, never a shooting threat from your half wall distributor. |

Imagine the oilers keeping hall, keeping the barzal pick over reinhart, drafting dobson, keeping eberle. What a bunch of muppets over in the oilers managements. - Codes1087
This is very true Codes add Fail Yakupov to the list of screw ups too. |

They'll just throw Bouchard to the wolves and then say its his fault when he can't pivot with NHL players and it turns out his shot isn't much use when he can't transition the puck against NHLers. |

I think Hughes can be #1-#2 defense man.
Dobson was my pick until Arizona went off the board. I think think the Islanders got lucky as I would have taken Dobson over Bouchard if I was Edmonton - 93Nucks
I don't care if he gets called a 1 to 4 , I do know he will add some much needed speed and talent to the back end and looks like a terrific PPQB |

Over/under on February when "Sure he scores and is good, but Connor McDavid just doesn't do what it takes to win like hit and block shtos" starts trickling out from Edmonton MSM? |

As Canadians in a strong hockey market like Vancouver. Why should we care about Vancouver games being broadcast in the US, it's simply irrelevant. It like on Sportsnet there's a link to "Leafs a draw for US broadcasters", who cares about this perception! We are Canadian there viewership doesn't matter at all. Brock Boeser is a Vancouver Canuck he will one day get his fame but the Canucks are the worst team in the league. What does anyone expect? International fame? - morrison1980
I couldn't give a flying fak about NBC sports . I never watch it. All 82 Canuck games are on tv and that is all that matters to me |

This is Chia we're talking about, he'll want Gudbranson. He might give Benning the same value the Canucks originally paid |
