At this stage in his career Horvat shouldn't need insulating, what he needs is another centre/offensive line to help.
I don't think many teams are giving away top 6 centres, which is why Petterson and the 2019 draft is so important for this franchise too get another top centre.
If Gaudette has a good camp he will be on the team, so far, I see 3 centres making this team, Horvat, Sutter and Beagle. - Reubenkincade
We won’t have a 1st tounder in 2019. It’s going as a part of the trade for Karlsson. Benning said so. |

Yeah, i want entertaining hockey too, i just dont see how having the best 4th line in the league accomplishes that. Injecting talent that pushes marginal players down instead of injecting marginal players pushing slightly less marginal players up sounds like a better solution to me. - 1970vintage
It is called keeping the puck out of your own net. It is also scoring more goals from your bottom 6 .
That is entertaining hockey |

Exactly . Whatever is wrong with the Canucks all points back to Benning . Golden Boy Trevor (the Teflon Kid ) walks away squeaky clean |

It ultimately goes back to FA.

So Jim is not responsible for any of the players acquired, or traded away, during his tenure. Got it! |

Trevor was a scapegoat and figurehead to buy time. Benning takes the heat for his own poor contract decisions, and I like Benning but he's made some bad ones. |

I heard Trevor come out on the radio and say straight out Jim can not make a trade without it being rubber stamped by him or Aquilini. |

That is rediculous. It was called the dead puck era because Lemaire demonstrated that teams lacking talent could be competitive by keeping the puck out of their own net. That was not entertaining hockey.
You have lofty expectations for the bottom of the roster, I hope you're right. I don't think you will be, but that's why they play the games. |

Exactly, Jim is simply a figure head, he doesn't actually do anything. Linden is the reason this team has all these great prospects, and awesome 3rd and 4th liners |

Yes.... so they said 'ok Jimbo, are you sure that's what you want to do? '
And Jimboner replied 'I'll stake my reputation on it that Eriksson will make us a playoff team'
Aquaman states 'why jimbo, that is the kind of enthusiasm I like, go play the man.'
That's why it's Jimboners contact. |

unless he is so far ahead of others, I'd want him to go to Utica and play a bigger role there. Develop.
TG isn't going to be playing him 10 minutes a night until Gaudette earns his trust.
There is ready to play and then there is ready to play 5 minutes a game and look like you belong.
In a way I'm glad we have some vets in front of these prospects because I don't want to rush them into the lineup.
and guess I will be calling for guys to be given a shot at the start of the season.
save me from myself. - hillbillydeluxe
Why would a prospect (Gaudette) have to be "so far ahead" of other players? Wouldn't he only need to be better? If Gaudette outplays Granlund (or Gagner, or whoever) for the 4th C roll how much better does he need to be? |

Outbidding other teams for the best of a bad bunch is never a prudent strategy. There will always be players needing a job opportunity. I'm not saying teams should never pay a premium, but trying to be competitive by over spending has never worked out. - 1970vintage
Players needing a job. Chaput, Skille, Megna. Cheap. Those guys combined haven't scored what LE has. They cost half as much even. That's your cheap strategy at work. |
