Has he shot an 11-year-old yet? He's only 18, so I'm assuming he doesn't have a wife to divorce him.

That seems like a good plan for the development of Hart..
Or not.

It will be interesting to start seeing Hak's lines now that the roster is trimmed. Bill did remind us that they can still use Phantom-assigned players for preseason, but I still think we will see the lines develop. Glad Knight is still in mix. He played well and might be option for bottom 6 role IMO.

Glad Hart's playing well but he needs more professional seasoning. We may see him sooner rather than later though.

I am excited to see what Hak will do with the lineup. I've been very critical of Hak, particularly in this facet of the game -- lineup selection and player deployment, but I've held off my final decision until this season.

Did his play warrant a longer look? I've seen him play for the Phantoms a few times and he's never stood out as anything special. Other than his ability to win faceoffs, he really doesn't excel at any part of the game. His skating is only average at the AHL level and would be mediocre at the NHL level. His skill level is decent, but nothing special and he's only average, at best, defensively. He's also not particularly big nor does he play a physical game. His best bet would likely be to look to maybe playing in one of the Euro pro leagues after this season, I don't think he will ever be an NHL player.

At $900K Vecchione will be the highest paid Phantom unless Lehtera or Weise end up down there.

Brennan is second at $450K.

Weren’t you one of several who believed he had a legit shot to get a spot on the team? Always using his name when talking about players in the mix?

No he didn’t warrant anything and never really has just find it amusing is all.

You have me confused with someone else, I thought, at best, that maybe he could be a 4th line option but he really showed little this preseason

I think you're a little low on him and I definitely don't see him as avg of a skater as you say. He is certainly being passed on the depth chart though

On a less deep team he'd have more of a shot, but Vorobyev and NAK are just better prospects.

Vecchione also doesn't have to go thru waivers (unlike Leier or Martel or Goulbourne), so sticking him on the Phantoms carries no risk.

Morin's timetable is the same. Can't rush an ACL rehab. He is only doing very light skating.

Hart is having a good camp and was excellent in Wednesday's game. Zero chance he makes the opening night roster unless both a vet and Stolarz get injured.

- bmeltzer

I really like Stolaz. More so than Lyon not that I don;t like Lyon as a decent backup. I just feel Stolaz is better. just needs to stay healthy. Last year really set him back. With the injuries to Elliott and Neurvirth it was his chance to show more what he could do but of course was hurt. really hope he is back on track.

Agreed. Right there with you. These next few games will give us a look at his thinking. I can't imagine he tinkers too much with the top 6. We've had those set in stone since they got JvR.

Can't wait to see Hak's thinking on the bottom 6. Laughton hasn't played that much at center yet, Knight is still in the mix (deservedly so), and Lehtera has only had one game thus far. Vorbyev has performed well and NAK and Twarnyski (sp?) are playing well. Big log jam but that's what we knew. Seems like 3C and entire 4th line is open. What's that? 8 or 9 players for 4 spots? Good stuff.

I too am high on Stolarz. His frame and athleticism have more to offer IMO. Puck tracking still needs work though. That goal he let up against the isles was pretty weak. I hope he gets NHL time this year.
