Found it interesting that in his Rangers debut, Quinn gave McQuaid an "A" on his jersey.
He played a good game too paired with Hajek. |

I thought Chytil had a great game. He should have had 2 or 3 points. What is concerning to me is that Howden has not looked good. - tomburton99
Isles had almost a full team playing last night, but Howden looks like he will benefit from year in AHL. |

Nothing that no one here already knows but this kid Chytil is the real deal. He looks like the best rookie we’ve had in a long, long time. Great vision, creativity, and awareness on the ice for such a young kid. It’s a very rare sight to watch a kid like this in Ranger land. Love the new agenda.
Going to be a very long year as far as Ws and Ls but I’m actually excited to watch some of this talent develop further on the NHL level. |

Thought Hajek looks pretty good. Think he could use some brushing up with the Pack for a little. |

Howden looks good on the defensive side. Not much on the offense. In saying that, its only 2 games in the preseason. Have him go to Hartford and see how he does during the season. If he made the team he would most likely play on the 4th line anyway. Let him play 1st or 2nd line minutes with the Pack. |

Don't sleep on MacQuaid being a decent bottom pair guy for the Rangers here. Veteran experience & big time toughness which we lacked the past few years. |

This was a very good trade for a few reasons. He’s tough, a great teammate, a veteran who has won. He will be a very serviceable bottom pair dman if he can stay healthy. If he does, Rangers fans are gonna love this guy for what he brings. |

Many felt as Valliquette after last season, that Georgiev proved he was NHL ready to be Hank's backup this season, as he still does so today. However, both management and in key, Benoit Allairre may feel he would best benefit as being Hartford's #1 starter through at least January. If so, I would have Tokarski as of today, favored ahead of the slightly younger, Mazanec to be Hank's opening night backup, barring any sudden injury, or letdown in his play in the final preseason games.
Tokarski already proved for what will be a younger Rangers roster, that he can play well also in the biggest of games as a regular starter, as he did against the Rangers in that 2014 Rangers series win over Montreal, in replacing the sudden injured, Carey Price. He hasn't yet allowed a bad preseason goal, and with his size and positioning, takes up a lot of net space, forcing the opposition to jam the front of the net, in addition to passing up some shots, and forcing an extra pass or two, or a shot through a crowd.
The goal Pulock scored last night required a perfect shot, after he was allowed to walk in close all alone, just as that Marty St. Louis OT game winner did in that Montreal series. In addition, should their playoff hopes dim about the mid season point or so, and some type of contender sees their #1 starter or backup suffer some lengthy injury, Tokarski could yield a decent enough draft pick in some deal. Then Georgiev would likely again become Hank's backup, especially should Hartford not be playoff bound themselves. |

As I wrote at the time, McQuiad provides New York with some toughness, allowing McLeod and/or Beleskey to sit for a more skilled fourth line forward. In addition, his leadership - on and off the ice - played a major role in his acquisition and why I think he will be one of the top six defensemen.
I will cover this more down the road, but who is your top-six and backup d-man right now? Mine are below, but the combinations are subject to massive change.
Skjei-Shattenkirk
Smith-Pionk
Staal-McQuaid
DeAngelo |

Pending the development of Hajek, Lindgren, etc., should McQuaid play well and like it here if the two parties can agree on a short term deal for him as a 6th d'man, his leadership and toughness would be a benefit to a younger overall roster.
There is still no guarantee yet as to how much Smith's play will improve, despite him being in good physical shape this time reporting to camp. In addition, in being the same age as McQuaid, Marc Staal's future is always a wonder due to his past vision issues and game wear, along with his $5.7M contract having only two years remaining after this season. Could a buyout of those two seasons be possible next summer?
If done so next summer, the Rangers net combined cap hit charges would be:
2019/20- $6,511,111 (Staal + Girardi), ($811,111 > Staal's annual $5.7M)
2020/21- $4,811,111 (Staal + Girardi), ($888,889 < Staal's $5.7M)
2021/22- $2,311,111 (Staal + Girardi's final season's cap hit charge)
2022/23- $1,200,000 (Staal only, in his final season's cap hit charge)
Staal's buyout cap hit rates alone if done so in June, 2019 would be:
2019/20- $2,900,000
2020/21- $3,700,000
2021/22- $1,200,000
2022/23- $1,200,000
Dan Girardi's remaining cap hit charges:
2019/20- $3,611,111
2020/21- $1,111,111
2021/22- $1,111,111 |

This is not about a "tanking", or Tokarski's overall past record and if he will or will not play good enough, despite having Benoit Allairre here as his goalie coach. Mazanec may fare no better himself under this situation, unless there is a huge surprise with the team's performance.
My initial words were that it is most important for management, and the coaching staff, especially first in Benoit Allairre, to decide what the best plan would be for Georgiev to aid his proper development, because it appears their future in net will soon lie with Shestyorkin and Georgiev.
It is essential that they decide if Georgiev is BEST SUITED to play regularly THROUGH AT LEAST JANUARY if not the duration as Hartford's #1 starter this season, or to start in only about 25 total games all season long as Hank's backup under a rebuild at the NHL level. That despite him proving last season in even less games played with a struggling team after their sell off, that he appears to be NHL ready for good. He may suffer a setback in play given the current situation, and who will fill in the roster spots that are up for grabs.

I did not copy and paste that cap hit comparison difference that may be "nonsense" to you in being a frozen tundra low life for suggesting it was, when others have posted players' buyout cap hit details here in the past on pertinent occasions.
Or did what you claim to be "nonsense" also include my words on Staal's contract possibly being bought out after this season? We will wait and see how effective the tough and experienced McQuaid will play, and how important his role could be to aid a young team if he wants to re-sign here. That, as well as for who among their youth on defense will appear ready to make the jump to the NHL for the 2019/20 season, which would make Staal's future here be questionable with the overload on the left side of their back line. |
