Signing him long term at 6-6.75 is a win for the Leafs. That’s what the goal is.
However with Willie, he might simply just be looking for a high paycheck. If this is the case the Leafs have to trade him. He’s behind Matthews, Marner, Tavares and you can even make a case for Rielly and Andersen.
And idk, I would put the under on him getting a PPG. He won’t be on the first pp unit. They aren’t taking their leading PP point getter in Kadri off. That will take a hit on his point totals.
Like I said, signing him long term to a reasonable cap hit fixes everything. But it might just not work out that way and that’s just business. - Santo_44
I wouldn't expect a pt per game season this year but wouldnt be surprised in the next 2-3 years. He's obviously going to improve he's only 22. If he won't sign a team friendly longterm contract bridge him and trade him after that. |

They are sweet bikes. I need one for the road for cardio.
But nothing beats the trails. |

I think this contract is about Marner and Matthews as much as it is Nylander. Bridging him is pretty useless.
By the sounds of it neither side wants to do that anyways. |

I think if he bridges he's a good as gone eventually but if it comes down to that or trade him as a 60pt winger with potential now I say do it. |

He's not getting 8 million. If he was he'd be in the lineup. |

Then he is older and loses RFA years
He could be less valuable by then
One thing will be for sure...it would show that Dubas caved right in time for the Matthews and Marner negotiations |

Honestly, I think Dubas is more concerned about the Matthews and Marner contracts and will likely budge on those deals. I don't see him giving in to Nylander |

What a wonderful thing that turned out to be for him...
Missed the entire 96/97 season, played in Switzerland.
Comes back for the 97/98 season, scores less goals and points than the 95/96 season.
Gets traded to Tampa Bay, has an awful year (35 games, 14 points).
Gets traded to Chicago after a terrible start to the 99/00 season in Tampa Bay.
Not until 2000/2001 does he put up more points than the 95/96 season.
I know he's his dad, but if there's someone William SHOULD NOT be listening to right now, it's his dumbass dad because if Michael Nylander had just shut the (frank) up and taken less money for another year or two, maybe half his career wouldn't have gone down the poopter. |

Are people starting to understand yet why I said the day they signed Tavares, Nylander became expendable as long as it brings in a legit RHD? |
|
|
|
Didn't he score like 4 goals in his very first game against the Sens? I guess hes off to a slower start then usual. The inevitable 5-10 game disappearing act is on its way. Or an injury of some sort. You know, the usual excuses for him not even hitting 70 points in his career but hes the best ever and commands more money than McD. - Leichs
I would take Matthews on my team any day. |

Plain and simple nylander has elite talent. Excellent sniper and a good mind around O zone. Matthews and him are great together. Nylander was-is always a threat in o zone with Matthews. We need him signed. I for one would be really dissapointed if Dubas can’t get him signed. |

Nylander's father was notorious for being a selfish, me-first player and person who played for himself and his next contract and never lived up to the hype until he played with Jagr. If he's taking advice from his dad, you can safely bet it's going to be advice that doesn't mesh well with Leafs management. |

"Excellent sniper" who scores 20 goals. He hasn't proven anything other than being a 20 goal, 60 point player. He has potential for more but he wants to be paid for his potential, not his results.
End of the day though, he's the Leafs 4th, if not 5th best forward. He's expendable. He doesn't need to be on the team for the Leafs to be successful. What they need out of Nylander is value to get a good top pair RHD.
Bridge deal, rack up the points with Matthews and Tavares on the PP and then trade his ass as soon as his numbers pop off and a good RHD can be brought in. |

I see your point UG but Connor brown had 20g last year did he not? I’d still rather have nylander. Call him a show boat etc he is very exciting to watch around the net. Let’s hope he can get 25-30 this year. Still more desirable then brown Johnson leivo Ennis or kapenan. Just my opinion nothing more.

If that’s the case I agree. There are a lot of people in this world that just care about money and don’t care what they do for a living. Maybe that’s the type of guy Nylander is...
I’m the opposite, I’m a business owner and probably could pick up a better paycheck working for someone but the lifestyle is better.
