So Benning said on the radio that they had EP “way higher” on their draft list...so he was clearly a top 3 pick for them. We know they had Hughes near the the top as well. It’s almost as if we won a lottery pick the last two years as we would have got these guys if we had won 3rd pick both drafts anyways. Interesting to think about.

Benning had a big smile after both of those picks. I think his pantie liners got full use those days.

It is nice when you get the guy you want.

In a way it kind of diminishes the value of winning the lottery. I mean first overall is obviously a huge win but the lists are all over the place these days. You can get your second ranked player at 7.

honestly, I feel like we have Arizona/montreal to thank for hughes. It honestly still baffles my mind that both of those clubs opted to draft for immediate need/position over BPA. So thankful that their mistake is our gain though.

I think more often than not, Zadina's and Hughes type players don't fall like they do, unless the teams that let them fall, draft players outside the norm due to positional/immediate need. Not a slight at Kotkaniemi or Barrett Haydon or even Tkachuk, but man did we get extremely lucky those teams opted for the players they did.

We got some good players in the last two drafts . I am beginning to get a lot of faith in the drafting crew.

It is fun to follow and fun to predict but the day of the draft I have trust in Brackett.

Ottawa got a gem in Tkachuk also . Wait and see. Bold prediction.

The good thing is it looks like the top 10 will be solid . Even if you don't draft first you can still grab a quality player.

That’s a really good call on Burke! Perfect guy to take over after cherry.

Also, Canucks 9th in power rankings? https://www.tsn.ca/the-7-...make-some-moves-1.1204125

Bet you like the Buffalo viewpoint better :

But then again - maybe some like this better:

Yeah, that does put things into perspective.

I'm guessing they wanted EP or Makar badly last year and this year they wanted Hughes. I just hope Benning would take Zadina if Hughes went to Detroit.

It says how shallow in depth and skill this team still is. They are both 4th liners. Expensive 4th liners.

I love me some Schaller and Roussel, if only Beagle wasn't injured they would be a lock for 6 wins in 6 games...

Sarcasm aside, I like what Roussel has brought so far.

Schaller has been meh, I don't think he's much of an upgrade on Archibald

Faster. If Archie was faster he would be a NHL player

Give it more time for Schaller to find his groove. I like Archie as a call up role player only. Injury upheavals make for both good things & not so good things to occur.

I guess, but I think they're about the same when it comes to effectiveness and that's the bottom line.

Archibald has 10 points in his last 28 games here. Schaller has 3 in 13 so far.

Well I have stated several times that I like all 3 acquisitions, so part sarcasm to poke the faithful.

He has also stole the puck a few times and did not get a point on the goal that followed shortly after.

Archie is not as active at puck retrieval .

Basically this. Archibald doesn't have the treads to be a real NHLer.

Roussell was the least worrisome of the twin contracts and he's playing well so far. Just wish at some point this team would collectively sack up when they get bullied.

It not always all about points, it's also the role in which specific players are used. I kinda agree with nighthawk about liking Archibald as a call up, but if he shows he can play 14 mins a night, and be an effective 4th line player, then they will have to make a change.
