You are flat out wrong here.

Ontario recording laws
Generally, it is illegal to secretly record oral communications between two or more people unless you have the consent of at least one of the individuals involved. For pure video recording with no sound, however, you may have greater freedom to secretly tape people.

https://help.uber.com/par...b6-45fe-9d7d-911842d21c8b

Uber allows driver-partners to install and use video cameras to record riders for purposes of safety.

Please note that local regulations may require individuals using recording equipment in vehicles to fully disclose to riders that they are being recorded in or around a vehicle and obtain consent.

Please check local regulations in your city to determine if these apply.

now go to Arizona state regulations
and as i said - if there is a sign in the car saying that passengers are recorded, it's not 'secretly'.

no way.
the car is his.
he has the right to record what's happening in his property.
and he has the right to use the recordings however he wishes.

- plantheparade

Then he has to advertise that.
He didnt, also he has to follow uber regulations.
Cameras are there to try and sway criminal activity, not to post for reality tv.
He should be fired.

I have never been in an Uber where there was a sticker anywhere saying that I was being recorded for any reason.

The issue is that the driver intended to injure the reputation of the players when he released the video, and that's where he is legally liable. This is where Uber has grounds to terminate his contract and is likely to use it.

Didn't the Sens organization say they saw the video before it was posted on Twitter? Maybe they said it was ok to post on Twitter?

Again, the sign has to say that the video recordings will be used for personal use.
No such signed existed apparently

They were not in Ontario when the recording took place - it was Arizona, so your post isn't really valid.

Anybody who is trying to defend this uber driver is obviously okay with doing sleezy things. It is nothing to be proud of as a human being.

Yeah it is kind of poopty

I've always liked Nylander. He will be without a doubt an elite winger in this league...I just feel his time with the Leafs is over.

It's illegal everywhere to release a video with the intent to injure the reputation of the person(s) in the video - unless the person(s) in the video are doing something illegal. This is where the driver crossed the line, because he does have the right to record the occupants of the vehicle for security purposes.

wait a minute.
it's the difference between uber and public services.
and in most taxis there are signs that you are recorded.
no, i don't know whether the uber car had a sign up.
i agree it's a sleezy thing to do.
but i don't think that there is any legal ground for the uber driver to be cut from the uber system.

Yup.

Baffles me how these guys are trying to defend him right now. It was illegal and a sleezy thing to do.

You don't defend these types of people unless you are paid the big bucks to do it as a lawyer.

Man.

It is a public place.

Do you know why it is illegal to (frank) in a car if its off your property? Because even if you own the car you are still in a public place.

There is no difference in this situation...being an uber driver does not all of a sudden make it a private place.

You are talking out of your ass and at this point you are proving to me you have zero knowledge about any of this.

It's only a public place, unless the Uber driver was the sole owner of the specific street/highway they were driving on.

Kinda like bltch, I owns da 401..(not literally, of course)

Its hard to tell as a fan...I didn't think Nylander was like this before all this.

If this is doing one thing its showing Matthews and Marner that Dubas does not (frank) around. If you want to be a Maple Leaf you have to be fair.
