It's illegal everywhere to release a video with the intent to injure the reputation of the person(s) in the video - unless the person(s) in the video are doing something illegal. This is where the driver crossed the line, because he does have the right to record the occupants of the vehicle for security purposes. - TrashPanda
Agreed, unless otherwise posted. |

Man.
It is a public place.
Do you know why it is illegal to (frank) in a car if its off your property? Because even if you own the car you are still in a public place.
There is no difference in this situation...being an uber driver does not all of a sudden make it a private place.
You are talking out of your ass and at this point you are proving to me you have zero knowledge about any of this. - Santo_44

wait a minute.
it's the difference between uber and public services.
and in most taxis there are signs that you are recorded.
no, i don't know whether the uber car had a sign up.
i agree it's a sleezy thing to do.
but i don't think that there is any legal ground for the uber driver to be cut from the uber system. - plantheparade
There's a lot of grounds for Uber to fire him.
They can argue that by videotaping the players and releasing it without their consent, he's sullied the reputation of Uber - which will lead to less people wanting to use Uber, and therefore less $. It's a pretty easy justification for firing him.
As for the Senators suing the driver or Uber, I'm not familiar with Arizona privacy laws. |

Its hard to tell as a fan...I didn't think Nylander was like this before all this.
If this is doing one thing its showing Matthews and Marner that Dubas does not (frank) around. If you want to be a Maple Leaf you have to be fair. - Santo_44
I think its more; If you want to play for the Maple Leafs, you have to take less when what you're worth.

If, as reported, the Sens knew of the video, why would they sue the driver? For all we know, it could have been Melnyk's idea to release the video. |

There is a 'code of conduct' that Uber drivers agree to in their contract, I'm sure the driver violated several terms in there.
The Sens and the players won't sue, they would be stupid to. All that would do is guarantee a place for the video in internet infamy. It's best to just let it blow over. |

Does anyone still talk hockey around here?
I know the shot clock looked brutal last night, but the vast majority were easy saves for Andersen.
I'm not in love with giving up 37 shots a night, but if the majority are from the perimeter, I guess I can live with it.
Funniest moment of the night: every game, MLSEL honours a member of our armed forces. They put them on the jumbotron, the service member tries not to cry (the woman last night was really struggling), and then a member of the Leafs Alumni Assocation presents the service member with a camo Leafs jersey.
Johnny Bower used to do it a lot. Darcy Tucker and CuJo are now regulars.
Last night it was...Christian Hanson. My entire section was laughing.
2nd funniest moment: there was a guy last night in a signed Bester jersey. |

In a way.
Like Duchene for example.
He may actually sign in Ottawa...he is going to get more money than he would on a top 5 team in the league..like the Leafs, TB or NSH.
There are teams out there that will gladly pay 7-7.5 mil for him. They realize that chances are slim they will be able to get a player of his caliber but really need a top line winger. Like Carolina. |

since the driver was part of the conversation - he had the right to record; and i am assuming as well to share the recording (images + audio)http://www.dmlp.org/legal...ide/arizona-recording-law - plantheparade
Wrong again.
He can record 'for security purposes' but not release any recording, especially since the intent of the release was to injure the reputation of the players in the video.
Edit: According to your article:
"However, you should seek the consent of one or all of the parties before recording any conversation that an ordinary person would deem private."

I agree.. I think the only tough save he made was off of Reilly Smith near the end of the game.. Other than that, a lot of the shots were from the outside the danger area.

Normally if you are trying to sell something, you don't try to harm its reputation, but hey, this is Melnyk, so just maybe you are right. |

Uber driver: "Hi Mr. Melnyk, I am the Uber driver that took several of your players to the airport after the game against the Coyotes. They were all making fun of one of your coaches and said that they haven't paid attention in weeks."
Melnyk: "That's excellent, let's post that poop on Twitter." |

We covered this.
Recording the video was perfectly fine.
Releasing the video with the intent to injure the player's reputation was not.
Please keep up! |
