Trade Nylander, then offer sheet him. (frank) this GMing is easy.

Sounds like how I EA GM things. Trade a player to a team that needs to waive him, claim him back when they waive him, and then trade again. Did it with Reimer 4 times in 1 season. Lol

It’s a failure for Dubas!? So what do you suggest? Sign Nylander at an inflated price? That just means that Marner and Matthews salary goes up and Nylander gets traded next summer. I say let him sit. If you get good value on a trade offer do it, otherwise trade him in the summer.
- Bullot

Agree too. Can't see any team paying him the 8 mil. So how is the trade scenario even possible? Offer sheet is definitely out. Dubas is in full control at this point.

Be watching tonight's game with flash light handy. One game against the Jets and the past weekend game saw the lights go out in first 5 minutes. Fingers crossed.

What’s this rule I heard something about that his cap hit is smaller if he signs later? Like throughout the length of the contract or something? Is that right?

So if he signs closer to dec 1st the Leafs can offer him the dough he wants but his cap hit is smaller?

Anyone have an explanation of this?

seems like most of the players that were in big (contract) disputes with their teams eventually got traded (quickly) - i can only think of hampus lindholm that has stayed so far..

we have seen alot of cases where the players involved (most of them euros as well) eventually got traded.

Seems like if he does it once he'll do it again, let him be someone else's problem.
If he signs bridge, what happens next?

Johnny Gaudreau - same agent as Nylander, too.

If the GOP hold the house and senate we're all (frank)ing screwed..

If the Dems take both we're totally screwed..

They're gonna split, each take one..

Leafs have a lot to lose to. Losing an elite winger for a year and playoffs is a massive hit to the team.

Dubas does as well...Its a failure for him if that happens and that is not good as his first big decision for the Leafs.

- Santo_44

I agree with this. The biggest problem for the Leafs making Nylander sit out a year is that they will then have to face this whole problem of signing him again when we also need to sign Matthews and Marner.

If he's still unsigned when those two need to be signed, that just makes things more complicated imo. So much for setting a precedent with the Willy signing if he's still unsigned.

Plus there's the whole, losing out on a year of a skilled young player, thing.

Not necessarily. Maybe Marner or Matthews are ready to sign something realistic and Nylander is holding things up.

If they're at an impasse on December 1st, they're not going to wait until next year to sign Matthews and Marner.

Pesce, Teravainen, Zykov, 2019 2nd (either Canes or Sabres)

For

Nylander, Leivo, Holl, 2019 4th (either Leafs or Blues)

- Steven_Seagull

I'm not sure if your value for Nylander is really high or TT is really low. The two and picks basically balance each other out if TT wants to sign for 8M+ too. Otherwise wouldn't it be better for Carolina to keep TT (with lower salary) AND Pesce?

Could you imagine if Marner or Matthews holds out next year? I know it won't happen, but Dubas would have to hand in his resignation letter ASAP.

If Matthews and Marner are so eager to sign, they can do so right now. They don't need to wait. They can sign right now. They haven't.

If Nylander is holding up their signing, then him not being signed will still be holding them up.
