The thing is, when I watch the Leafs, Marner looks more dangerous more consistently.

Matthews is a 2-way center though and has the most lethal shot in the league, including Laine.

At the end of the day, it will still be tough to look at Marner's agent with a straight face and say Matthews deserves more. To my initial point, they cannot afford Nylander.

If we assume most people's opinions of the situation are at least in the ballpark, then I don't see how this ends well for Nylander.
