Not really....I mean you can throw in Brock Mcginn..he doesn't add any value to a deal of this magnitude. - Santo_44
Nah I just mean if we're not including a player like Teravainen then our cap situation starts to tighten up very quickly. |

I think we all hope that.
The thing is Matthews is going to want more than McDavid. We all know he is not as good, regardless of some pretty dumb rationalizations by some people here.
The market for Matthews sets his price, not the stats. He knows this, and so does his agent. Does anyone doubt that there is at least 1 team that offer-sheets him something ridiculous on July 1?
So then how do you deal with Marner, who will get more points again this year, looked much better in last year's playoffs, and arguably is the more dangerous player a lot of the time.
I know I am guilty of being overly negative, but I think there is a real danger that those contracts become a major problem for the Leafs. You can't have that many players of that caliber in the cap world. - Aetherial
AM $11 or $11.5 I hope
If Marner lights it up he may take $9m/8
Nylander at $5m on a bridge for a year or 2 after.

People keep bringing up Nylanders Dad..someone was curculating that Marner video from when he was like 12. ... Marners Dad does not sound like a guy that will stay out of things - senstroll

Mark Fraser, Colton Orr and Frazer MacLaren would easily replace Rielly, Matthews and Marner..

If you are Marner or Matthews, what teams would you rather pay for that can afford a 10+million salary?
maybe:
1/ New York Rangers (it's NYC)
2/ Montreal (with Toronto, the greatest franchise in hockey)
although those teams really don't have alot of capspace to begin with.
after that??? maybe Colorado / Columbus / SJ / Floriday / NYI / Flyers ??
not sure whether any of those teams make sense; probably the most dangerous team for an offer sheet would be San Jose. - plantheparade
I think AZ is the obvious one for Matthews. People can doubt this because of the financial stability of the organization, but what if they view it is an opportunity to bring a hometown superstar and turn around the whole franchise? They also have quite a bit of good young talent.
People are silly to dismiss that threat. It is also naive to think Matthews wouldn't consider going "home". Leafs fans, more than anyone, should understand that is a possibility. Oh, and does anyone think Matthews LOVES playing for coach Babcock and getting less than 20 minutes a night, limited powerplay time, while his comparable peers get much more of both?
I thought San Jose also... but do I remember correctly that someone pointed out that they don't have their own picks for such an offer sheet.
Montreal would offer him just about anything. |

Matthews agent will ask for a certain percentage of the cap, maybe the same percentage as what mcjesus signed for.
Which means his annual salary will be more. - Fakepartofme

Nope.
an RFA just means it has to be an offer sheet. I am sure every interested team has had at least a chat with his agent.
Friedman said Carolina would be all in...Pretty sure it was confirmed that Carolina and his agent have had conversations. Carolina knows what it is going to take and judging by the amount they are scouting the Leafs they are fine with it. - Santo_44
yeah, exactly.
Why would they bother scouting the Leafs if they were not prepared to pay Nylander and they know for sure what he is asking.
The interesting part is who exactly are they scouting on the Leafs and what do the deals being discussed look like?

If we can make him fit, and paying him $7.5M per season are not one in the same.
It depends on where, or how much you value him.
Is he ahead of Rielly and Andersen? Is he ahead of Marner/Matthews/Tavares?
Is he valued equally to Nazem Kadri? - PatC80
I think we all know that a player's value isn't always what he is paid. And as a holdout, Nylander's cap hit will be less than his average annual salary after the first year when he signs, so do you structure the contract so as to take advantage of more cap space this year and lessening cap space in subsequent years?
At some point the question ceases to be where is he on the Leafs pecking order, and becomes if you want him or not. Well if you don't want him, you're getting rid of a hell of a good player and probably not getting equal value in return. |

Can someone who has actually watched and/or followed Brett Pesce please give me the lowdown on his play? Is he a 1 or 2 dman? The talks with Carolina appear to continue and I haven’t heard much about this guy until recent. |
