Clearly the biggest takeaway from tonight’s game is that this team needs to be broken up although that will never happen.

Well they tried firing the GM and that didn't work. They'll probably fire the coach and while it may or may not be the right move that probably also won't work. Honestly I think it's gonna take a big trade. Like Voracek big. Which may or may not be dumb but may work

From the news of Hextall's canning, to the news conference that evidently, nobody told Homer about until 5 minutes prior, and for the cherry on the parfait, yet another utter, inexcusable collapse.

Seemingly every question directed at Paul this afternoon was prefaced by "great question...", a glazed look, a lengthy 5 second delay, then an oft repeated response about a "new voice".

It was painful to watch. Almost as painful as watching this team go through it's too-familiar paces tonite.

People should be terrified about what direction this team might take. Wasn’t it reported holmgren took 10 seconds to answer the carter hart question about if he was on the same page with hextall? He says we’re going to potentially see him? Why would that be if you plan on bolstering this roster for a playoff run supposedly? That apparently also means we are also going to see carter hart and his .87 save pctg?

Their best skill players can’t execute multiple 3 vs 1’s tonight. And by execute I mean getting a shot on net.

I think we will have a new GM to complain about before the weekend. Per TSN it's down to Fletcher, Hunter, Drury & Futa with Fletcher being the front runner. AFAIK Holmgren hasn't asked the Kings permission to talk to Futa.

How can the direction be worse than the direction it’s going now with the roster and coaching staff selected by Hextall?

I’ve been a big fan of Hextall as GM, but tonight proved to me to be further justification for firing him. The team desperately needs change and he was unwilling to make it happen. Tonight was just further validation.

What I’m scared is they’re going to interview these candidates who will study this roster and be prepared to lay out their vision for the team. They’ll interview some who will want the autonomy to maybe make some trades that won’t immexiatwy help the roster. Are they crossed off the list?

Aren’t they just going to pick the guy that will go along with the program and tell them yea I’ll take the assets we have and add to this group? They already have a vision for the team apparently and a timeline so it seems the new GM will have his hands tied to a degree right off the bat

I guess it wouldn’t be a new direction. But Im really skeptical to add to this core.

I came away not feeling reassured about the state of the team. Perhaps Holmgren is uneasy answering the media, but he had 24 hours to prepare for obvious questions and his responses left me with more questions.

i read something about drury before. that'a a wtf name to me...but hey what do i know?

hunter is the only one that has my interest of this group.

I really want to see a roster shake up before a decision is made on Hak. I am convinced that he is not the real problem. He has also shown deep character in his attitude and demeanor after being dealt a really tough hand.

Also, I think if a head coaching change is finally deemed necessary, it would be better to do it in the off season. If that happens, depending on who the new HC is, I would also like them to consider him for an assistant coach position. Not sure that Hak would even consider it, but he should. He seems to be an excellent coach in so many areas. The areas where he has trouble, it seems like he needs to get a new perspective. Maybe working with a veteran NHL coach that he respects would force him to rethink some of the standards of action within games that he uses. I would have liked him to use a time out in the 3rd tonight.
