Quality goaltenders that were good while playing for other teams, but were terrible while playing for them. Before or after. - tkecanuck341
Point is EVERY team has goaltending issues one time or another, it's not only just Philly. What other above average goalie has LA had besides Quick? Don't you dare even try to justify that pile Hrudey as one. Cloutier? Potvin? Garon? How about Checkemonkey? |

Islanders should do something then. If they would just finally move to Quebec or Seattle it could be IslanderBuzz. |

2 days before the signing deadline and you still think teams need permission to talk to an RFA? Come on. That is the fact in a speculative business that should be iron clad. |

None of the braindead media talking heads have direct insight into what has taken place with Nylander.
Sign and trade? Sure that happens all the time.
Asking for 8 per year? Yup, can't be corroborated but a media guy with a degree in journalism from an internet college said so, so it must be true.
Bridges have been burned? Hasn't been one quote to suggest that but okay

Ah the good old 'Sign and Trade'
surprised it took this long EK - mlindsay
Looking back, it seems so obvious.
How did we all miss the 3-way sign and trade within the division??
It just makes more sense than any other outcome.

WTF...first you call Wayne Simmonds, Wade, now you call Gudas a forward?
Be honest, you have never watched hockey before right? - Glak18
Well Ek did say that JVR and Simmonds where the same player...
so maybe he is right at home here.

I dont want any of these goalies. Stick with Lyon and Stolie and let this thing continue to pleasantly tank please...In fact, trade 93 and 17 and continue to tear it down for Hughes.
Jonathan Quick would be an absolute joke this point in his career, don't help out LA on that one, Homer, you moron...

My point is that the problem in Philly isn't always the goaltender. It's the awful team defense that plays in front of him. Move that same goaltender to a different team and he would do fine. They have certainly had their share of bad goalies, but they've destroyed some good ones as well.
Vachon and Potvin were both exceptional goaltenders that were equally exceptional in LA. Hrudey, while you can certainly argue that he wasn't an exceptional goaltender, put up similar numbers while playing for LA as he did playing with other teams in the league. He wasn't worse while playing for LA. |

I can agree with the first part, but you said this..
"Oh god, please don't trade Quick to Philly. That's where goaltending careers go to die. He deserves better than that."
Which goaltenders died in Philly? Certainly not Mason, he resurrected his career in Philly and posted pretty solid numbers until the last year. Bryz? He didn't really have much of a career as a starter until Philly. Bob? Fantastic first year as a Flyer, was it a bad trade sure it was. Cechmanek? You do remember he was a Vezina nominee? Never a fan of his when he was a Flyer, thought he was extremely overrated.
Vanbiesbrouck and Emery, only goaltenders that had better years outside the Flyers that I can think of...but Emery did help take the Flyers to the 2010 Stanley Cup finals.
That is where the Flyers main problem is, they don't get proven goaltenders that succeeded elsewhere. They always try to get one they think will be good for them. Quick would actually be something new for the Flyers. |
