Post game interview he mentioned that the biggest difference between playing now and playing in the beginning of the season is trusting his game:
"I start to get into trouble when I over think things. Just have to trust my game- that's what's gotten me to the AHL"
He's starting to settle in and mature. Kid is going to be a gem. |

28 Claude Giroux - 14 Sean Couturier - 11 Travis Konecny
25 James van Riemsdyk - 19 Nolan Patrick - 17 Wayne Simmonds
12 Michael Raffl - 21 Scott Laughton - 93 Jakub Voracek
23 Oskar Lindblom - 15 Jori Lehterä - 22 Dale Weise
I hate the lines but looking at the pieces and trying to arrange lines i get the difficulty Hakstol has. Patrick has played his best hockey this season with Lindblom. I hate Linblom on the 4th line so seems logical to move him up but then you have JVR with Laughton. that said JVR with Patrick and Simmonds has just looked so awkward. Breaking up the top line to balance things out probably is a bad idea because you are getting good play from them and TK.
For all the trade Giroux people, ever notice the one constant for when players get hot, its Giroux they are playing with.
NO idea f Varone can play at the NHL a lick but wouldn't mind seeing him get a chance. Not much to lose |

FWIW, I’d try
G-Coots-TK
JVR-Patrick-Jake
Lindblom-Varone-Simmonds
Raffl-Laughton-Weise
I doubt Varone can be any kind of real solution but perhaps adrenaline can carry him to a couple of good games. |

Hakstol for some reason is hesitant to fix the second line. Patrick is not doing much. If I had to bet he’s so worried about the defensive side of the game he’s overthinking and not playing loose and letting his abilities stand out.
I hate JVR and Simmonds on the same line.
I would expect to see Varone play tomorrow.
Who is going to back up Stolie once Neuvy gets hurt again? I suspect Lyon.

Was the Varone recall done to replace someone in the lineup or more just to have an extra body to fill the 23rd roster spot in case of an injury on the road? |

I don't normally get into the line discussion but here is what I'd like to see.
Giroux/Couturier/JVR
Voracek/Patrick/Konecny
Lindblom/Laughton/Simmonds
Raffl/Lehtera/Wiese

If there was a magic wand that Hakstol could use to fix the 2nd line, I'm sure he would wave it.

Does Varone get a pay bump in the NHL? Flyers just giving him a little gift for his good work in the AHL? |

What’s that add up to? An extra $1500/day in the NHL? Nice little Xmas bonus if he stays for the road trip |

Maybe its for an extra body on the road trip but they already do have one in Weal and it leaves the Phantoms short calling up Varone who is their leading scorer. no idea if he is going to play but I would have to wonder why they would call Varone up if he wasn't |

Im sure he only takes home half of that after taxes and Escrow. I mean its more than we make but we dont have to kill our bodies on a daily basis and risk career ending injuries everyday. If a young guy like that is paralyzed for life, he is franked. |
