Thoughts on Kylington Todd? With Valimaki out I think he was stepped up and earned a spot. Looks like the D corps are set for awhile. How does our D depth stack up to the rest of the NHL?

I like Kylington quite a bit. I think he looks good and like that he's not afraid to jump up and create offense. A lot of young players are scared to take chances and play their game.

From top-to-bottom, I think it's fair to say the Flames have a top-5 defense.

I like Neal (historically) but if there was any night to step up and make an impact, I assume last night would have been it. He's a big body that is not playing that way. He doesn't seem to be the type of player to pout because of 3rd line status but what is it then? I want to believe the guy can find his mojo again but honestly, this is beginning to look allot like another "big" FA signing haunting us from X-Mas's past.

And seriously, linesmen, let the big boys fight if they want to. Peluso was pissed when they jumped in.

So who starts next game? The Chronicles of Rittich looked good last night.

Alright. Let me get this off of my chest so I can untwist my panties.

3rd game in 4 days, on the back half of a back to back for the Flames. I had read somewhere that the Oilers has the easiest schedule of the year butt someone also pointed out you guys have a ridiculous 18 games playing teams on their back half of a back to back. Either the NHL was feeling sorry for McDavid, or money exchanged hands somewhere and ended up in the back pocket of the schedule maker, or both. Just...wow..

Moving on. I’m a little pissed at our coach for dressing Peluso. Not only was he the scape goat for one of the WEAKEST goalie interference calls I have ever seen(!), he played a total of 2:28 in a game where our gas tanks were already mostly empty already. We could have dressed Czarnik, who is the 5th best Flame corsifor 5vs5 (Todd) and his tank was mostly full. What a (frank)ing waste.

Mikko Koivu hammed it up a bunch on his knee on knee with Gio. Still didn’t look pretty tho. We missed him. He’s definitely a top 5 D in the NHL right now. Backlund hasn’t put up the same offensive numbers so far as he did last year, but boy did it show we missed his excellent 2 way game. Lines really get messed up when he’s out, that’s for sure.

Bottom line, you played the weakest Flames team we’ve had all year, and it was a 1-1 tie. I’m glad Hitch has cleaned up your systems, especially defensively. Butt don’t get to high on your horses yet, you’ve got a long way to go. Thank God for your new goaltender, he’s pretty good. Just don’t keep hanging out to dry or he will become mortal.

Panties successfully untwisted.

Good win Oilers. See you for round 3..

Neal is a big FA signing with NO NMC or NTC. BT is learning. No haunting nessesary. We can trade his asś whenever we feel like it if he doesn’t pick it up.

Meh, move on. We were in it which is something considering the number of players out of the lineup. The depth at D that the organization has right now is really showing, Anderson has looked just fine in a top 4 roll and Kylington has looked solid in his games.

That goal called back could have gone either way I suppose. I just can't help drawing a comparison to the Dallas game where Rittich was interfered with prior to the GWG and it was allowed.

Flip side to this is that we are winning without him in his groove, is there any harm to keeping him around to see how he does through the season? If his game comes into form for the stretch and playoffs then I think we will all be very happy.

Agreed.

And I’m glad you pointed out that Rittich goal against Dallas. It’s a guessing game as to what exactly is goalie interference these days. It a common denominator across the board for all teams.

I am moving on. What’s done is done and you can’t change the past. Good win for the Oil.

I am however looking forward to someone crushing Dumbasś in the next Wild game. If the head wasn’t the principal point of contact on Backlund, how did he sustain a concussion?!..

Anyways, boys get a much needed day off and back to action!!

True but he wasn't signed to be a role player. Ask the Oilers fans what thats like (Luuuucic).. Just think if he played like his resume states... Maybe he's saving it for that playoff run?!

He's 31 with 4 more years at 5.75. Who's trading for him? He's more untradable than Lucic. At least Lucic is slow and mean. Neal is just slow. The only hope is that whatever the new rules they come up with for Seattle's draft makes them take him.

Brodie has been playing really well, but he was the sole reason for the Edmonton goal.
He followed the pass to the middle of the ice and left the most dangerous Oiler in the building all alone behind him.
Thus the Oilers only goal came on a broken pass play that went off two or three sticks and back through to Mc Whooptydo, who buried it. Good finishing but even James Neal could have managed that.

The Flames goal was not goalie interference because even though the goalie would have been obstructed, if he had moved, he didn't move. The puck was in the net before he even tried to move. And Peluso was being pushed back and had nowhere else to stand.
That said, the Flames should have converted the 3 on 1 break two minutes into the game. I knew we were in for a long frustrating night when that got blocked.

Hitchcock must have had a good chuckle when he saw both Peluso and Prout in the lineup. We got played.

I agree, I'd say we are better with Neal than Edmonton with Lucic though. It could just be an off year for Neal. Lots of people were all over Hamonic last year and I think it was the pressure of playing in a market like Calgary that might have gotten to him. He's been consistently one of our best players this season. I'm hoping the same is true for Neal and he's just putting more pressure on himself to be an impact player on a Canadian team. At 31 he really shouldn't fall off a cliff like this.

I was fine with the Peluso/Prout roster last night, and at the very least, after Hamonic was rocked yet again, we had someone able to step right up and take care of business.

Flames, while they are not the Broad Street Bullies, also need to show that they are going to stand up for their guys getting run, and it's been happening a lot lately. Prout, IMO, has been a disappointment in that he has not really played a physical game when dressed, and is a plug defensively/offensively.

I would have pulled him from the lineup.

That said, I don't think the analysis of their contributions, or lack thereof, are any real reason we lost that game. I was of the opinion that the Flames rallied vs Nashville, and a natural letdown was inevitable on game 3 in 4 nights, back to back, without our top dman and best shutdown player where Edmonton could control the matchups...

For fairness' sake, while Flames were hemmed in, they still put up 24 shots.

Oh, and that Peluso goal should have counted, so really, we tied!

For all the Neal haters dude has played more hockey than anyone in the last couple years. 2 finals appearances and he is the kind to elevate his level when it counts. Maybe has has an off year this year but I am pretty sure the last 1/4 of the season we will be happy we have him.
